My latest head scratcher with FHM: Are these guys in the draft pool or are they a mirage?

Ok, here is the latest head scratcher with FHM. What the heck is the Futures list and why doesn't it match my draft class list? We have a news item dated July 7 that says Central Scouting Futures List Announced. This sounds like a great idea and use of the in game news. If only it made sense and actually worked.

What do I mean? Well, I look at these players on the futures list and they all say eligible for the 1948 draft. Yet when I go to the 1948 NAHC draft list from the manager's home page none of these players are listed as being part of the draft class?

So are they part of the draft and is it an error they don't show up in the draft class list -and no one from the actual draft class list shows up when I click on future's list in the scouting drop down.

Are these players going to be part of the draft and show in it at some point or is it yet another confusing mirage created by an incredibly inconsistent program and interface where the only result will be that those players will eventually just disappear? I have no idea and that is the problem with many aspects of this game. It does not do what you think it should, or even in cases like this what it is telling you it does.

IMAGE ONE - The message showing the Futures List. Great some help and guidance for scouting for the next draft. On the surface a fantastic use of the news item section.

IMAGE TWO -A list of all players on the futures list with the message clearly written they are the top candidates for the upcoming draft.

Again, great news. Can't wait to go to my manager's screen. click on the NAHC draft list and look at how these players compare to the rest of the class. - nevermind the fact it would save a lot of clicking if there was another tab to show the draft class right there.

IMAGE THREE - a screen grab from the player scouting page of one of them, again saying he is on the draft list for 1948.

Yes, this guy is in the draft class. I better scout him.

I go to the managers screen and click the circled link to see the class of eligible players for the next entry draft but no one from the future's list will be on it.

Wait. What is going on? Why are these guys not showing up. Those other screens told me they were the cream of the crop for the next draft class. I am on the screen with all the draft class eligible players (according to what it says on my manager home page) but these guys don't exist here. I am confused once again by this game and the -well let's just say unique- challenge of navigating FHM.

So why is there a prospect list with top draft candidates and an entry draft list that supposedly contains all of the draft class but no one from the draft list makes the prospect list and no one from the prospect list makes the draft list?

If you have a headache from reading that sentence. Imagine how I feel having to write it after navigating the confusing roundabout that is the FHM interface - full of traps that reset your filters when you click the back button, but only sometimes, and now adding in misdirection plays with phantom players just to make scouting more challenging I suppose.

I want to love this game. I really do. But FHM makes it so hard sometimes. I feel like I am in an abusive relationship with FHM. On one hand it is great to me. I enjoy the history (even though it can be a pain to navigate through) and the online league we have set up is a blast and full of great story lines. But it seems every time we advance there is some sort of an issue - many small and just of the irritating variety fortunately- but it just makes FHM so much less than what it could be. And maybe it is that for people that play solo modern day full worlds. I don't know. That is not for me. I like the small online fictional world our commissioner has created but daily there is something we see that really after 9 versions should be better. I get it is not OOTP and the argument OOTP has 24 versions and a much bigger design team, but how bad is it you can't even figure who is in and who isn't in the draft class in a simple fictional league in version 9 of the game?

I mean really. This is exactly as if OOTP in its news item of the top rookies in the upcoming draft class, sent out a list of 10 names and links to player pages but did not allow them to appear in the draft pool. I do not ever recall an issue like this in OOTP. Certainly not version 24, version 9 or whenever the first version they had it as a news item - which if I recall correctly might be OOTP 2 or 3. Yes FHM is certainly not OOTP, I know.

Hockey is my favourite sport and there is so much to like but there are so many things that just don't seem to work. Yes, it is a fictional league but our structure is very simple. A 6-team pro league, two minor leagues with some affiliated and some unaffiliated teams and a draft pool. That's it. No junior leagues, no other major pro leagues. Just a basic structure but we constantly get annoying things like this example.

As a side note, Why is there not a simple screen you can access that shows you the full draft class from the drop down menu, ideally in the scouting drop down?

Why do we get a Future's list there which shows players we apparently cannot draft? Why does this same section have a watch list, a midterm ranking, and a final ranking tab that do not work for fictional play anyway. Would it not make sense to put a draft tab right there as well???? And the bigger question is why are players being written about in league news items as the best available for the next draft, when they are not included in the draft pool?

Make a draft pool tab here and my life would be just a little easier. Of course, making sure anyone the game says in a news item is part of the draft, actually would be part of the draft pool would be the priority. I don't mind a few more clicks if that is the only way to get the proper information.

I'm a little tired of the OOTP is on 24 v FHM on 9 thing.

OOTP 6 (or was it 6.1) was a very good, fun, fully formed game for online play. Many leagues stayed on that long after OOTP had moved to other versions. We're at version 9 of FHM. Some of these things should have been enhanced to make online play easier and more fun. There's a lot in the game, but it's a nuisance for the Commissioner and full of puzzles for the players.
