Exclamation Game constantly crashing

Every time I try and to play the game no matter what I do when I try and make a new save my game crashes when its loading. I have tried un installing the game and re installing and it isn't working, I have over 170 hours on the game so I don't understand why it has started doing this now.

First thing to check: are you low on drive space? That would explain the crash when creating a new game. If that's not it, and you're playing the Windows version, try running the game in administrator mode - right-click the game icon and choose "Run as Administrator", or, if you're playing the Steam version, exit the Steam client and restart it that way. That'll fix it if the problem is Windows User Account Control not letting you write to the save folder.

All my drives have space, I have exited the steam client and restarted my computer and uninstalled and re installed the game multiple times and nothing works. I currently have no save files in my storage but it still gives me the option to continue game and when I do it says "Invalid Database Version" but I am not sure what that means.

So I found out that anytime I try and start a new game, a file of an old save keeps popping back up into my saves of my customizable data folders, I think it is corrupted but I don't know how to get rid of that file because I believe it is corrupting my whole game

Go into your \Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager 9\quickstart_games folder, then check each of the subfolders within that for the file you're seeing. If you find it, delete it from there. And it'd also be a good idea to reinstall or if on Steam, use the "Verify this game's files are installed correctly" option (right-click on the game in your library, then go to the Installed Files:tab) to fix any other damage to the game's setup that might exist.

I have tried removing all the quick start files from said folder and my corrupted file still wont go away no matter how many time I delete it, if I try to start a new game it always comes back into my saved files. I have fully deleted my files and re installed the game and verified the game files on steam but nothing seems to do the trick. I will note that every time my old file comes back after being deleted it is always empty but it still comes back. I really appreciate the help though

That file is inside one of the .quick folders - don't delete the quickstart folders themselves, the game needs those to set up new saves (which is why it keeps appearing, it's in one of them and the contents of those folders get copied to the new save.) If you're getting it when you create a standard game, it's probably in Current.quick, or Historical.quick if you're getting them in historical games.

I reinstalled the game so I have the quick start files, I have gone through each one on my games local files and on Documents> Out of the Park Developments> Franchise Hockey Manager 9> quickstart_games. I cannot find my save file anywhere in these quickstart folders, the only place I can find any save files is after I try and press "continue game" and it tells me I have an invalid database version and an empty save folder goes into Documents> Out of the Park Developments> Franchise Hockey Manager 9> saved_games

none of these work for me

I wish there was a tool we could run on our saves, when the game is crashing, telling us the cause, so we don't have to bother Jeff all the time

I was trying to tell you where to find the corrupted file that keeps appearing in your saves; the saves themselves will not be in the quickstart folder. What's the name of this file that keeps appearing in the new saves you create?

Sorry I don't think I'm understanding, how can I tell if a file inside one of the .quickstart folder is corrupted? The file that keeps appearing is called sus.lg and every time it re appears it is always empty. I don't know if you have discord or not but I would be more than happy to hop in a call with you and share my screen so you can see what is going on, thanks

Sus.lg would be a save folder, and if there's nothing inside it, that wouldn't affect anything in a new game, it's just an extra empty folder. But if you want to get rid of it, go to \Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager 9\quickstart_games\Current.quick and look for it in there. If it's there, delete it; if not, do the same check in OpeningDay.quick and Historical.quick.

But that's not likely to fix the issue with not being able to start a new game. Try doing this: on the start screen, click on Settings, then Troubleshooting. Click the checkbox that says "Enable debug trace" and then go back and try to create a new game. When it crashes, go into your \Documents\Out of the Park Developments\Franchise Hockey Manager 9\debug folder and you'll find a file named "fhm_trace.txt." Email that file to me at jeff@ootpdevelopments.com. That may give me some idea of why it's crashing.

I am already 1/4 of century into my save. it's August 31. Every time I open it, it crashes before it opens. What do I do?

"load_ongoing_stories Could not load file. It exists but does not contain any data (file size = 0 bytes)."

I got your trace file, but there's nothing wrong there that I can see. Can you upload that save (instructions here)? I'd like to see the files in that save folder.

That's just a path to a local file on your computer - you'll need to upload it to google drive, drop box, go file or the FTP that Jeff linked in order for him to be able to access it!

just to simplify:

(1) go to the league save on your computer, select all files EXCEPT subfolders
(2) add the files to a zip file
(3) if you have a Windows PC, open file explorer and point it to ftp://ootpsupport.com/incoming/fhm/saved_games
(4) drop the zip file in there
