25% Discount
I got the new discount notice. It is now cheaper than the $4.00 discount I got for pre-order which, of course, was a waste of money as the game wasn't ready for over a month after it was released.
I probably should wait for the OOTP 25 fire sale if/when I decide to buy it. Are you having a hard time selling this now? |

Things typically go down in price or go on sale after it has been released.
This isn't any different than any other game, or any other year, really. |

In other words, don't buy this game until AFTER it has been released, fully test and is operating as it should have been when released. Brilliant marketing strategy. I will be sure to keep this in mind. In the past, this discount wasn't until near the end of its life, not the beginning. |

I’ve been playing the game for awhile now without issues (or when potential issues arose and were noted, they got fixed). YMMV.
The latest patch has a list of fixes a mile long. I guess, if your glass is half-empty, you complain that the game should have been perfect on release, or should not have been released until now. [That ignores the reality that thousands of players will identify bugs that dozens of beta testers did not encounter.] My glass if half-full. I get to play the game in the Spring, and gradually incorporate the various patches to improve the process. So to me that’s like “having your cake and eating it too”. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Every year, the same complaints about the discount. Anyone who has played OOTP knows that the new version will be discounted at some point. If you really want to save a few bucks, feel free to wait. Not as if it’s a surprise or a fire sale. Just marketing. Name me another product that has this level of persistent support. Go ahead, name one. That’s right, you can’t. There are so many products and apps that are one and done, or annual updates/upgrades/fixes. This is happening in real time, transparently, driven by the community feedback. Sure it’s not always pretty; but stuff gets fixed. And it’s not as if the game was “unplayable” upon release. It was. I have. So have many others.

I've been playing v24 since release and haven't had anything game breaking. I do play out every game so the slow pace is an advantage, I think. |

Not true at all. There are always sales during the season. Just like in years past, I'm willing to bet there will be another one at the All-Star break, another during the playoffs and then a big one at the end of the calendar year.

This sale is happening because of a Steam Sports event, and OOTP is simply participating in it. Not really something to read too much into.

Yeah, as long as patches/updates have been able to be pushed out after release (basically when the vast majority of users were on internet connected devices) this has been standard operating procedure in the whole industry. It's pretty common for games to be released in alpha now. Just be glad OOTP actually patches and fixes the bugs, because a lot of games never do anymore.

Braden, the first release is for people who want to play the current season. There is only so much that can be done and the devs rightly concentrate on the best experience for those people. There is no reason for a historical player to buy the game in April.
So I don't see any reason for you to complain about the first version as your interest clearly isn't current year baseball. You're mired in circa 1962 as shown by your choice of avatar.

Half this forum is people crying about something that isn't worth crying about.

Yea, really, a guy protesting a done deal that's a done deal for good reasons, that's crying.

Obviously it's a question of patience... I'm not so I get the game earlier because I want to see what's new for me and I don't really care about 5 or 10 dollars.

It seems to me that good, detailed in-house testing would alleviate most of those type problems. I understand that it takes $ resources to that and that is probably why it doesn't get done. |

Have you seen the cost of living in this capitalistic hellscape that is the US these days?

You're not buying blind when you buy the new version of OOTP. It's not like most games where the entire game is rewritten from the ground up with every release so it can be a crazy grab bag of bugs and features gone that you used to have. OOTP is developed from an existing code base. New versions are just that; new versions. It's basically the same game with new features and, importantly, a new season of data. So you if have OOTP 23 you are definitely not buying "blind" with OOTP 24. It's going to be the same game with new features and tweaks. Sure there may be some bugs introduced with those features, but it's basically the same game. |
