Coquis opening day roster 2000 - Pitchers
Starting Pitchers
Kenny Murphy - Murphy is a young upcoming southpaw at only 26 years old, he is hoping for a solid season for the Coquis. He has a deep repertoire with a fastball, sinker, curveball, slider and changeup. He won't blow the ball by you, with a max in the mid 90s, but he can be crafty. Corey Hasek - Hasek is a soft tossing rookie who is looking to make a splash in his first year in the WIBL. He only gets to the low 90s but hoping that his 3 pitch repertoire can play in the majors. He throws a fastball, sinker, and cutter which is interesting for someone who doesn't throw super hard. He is also the #44 ranked prospect in the WIBL. Rick Isherwood - Another rookie for the Coquis, the number 59 prospect in the league. He has a wide repertoire with a fastball, sinker, slider, changeup, and splitter. He throws in the mid 90s and gets a lot of groundballs. Josh Bell - Bell is the hardest throwing starter in the rotation, topping out at 99 mph. He has a fastball, sinker and slider and is only 23 but has 5 years of major service. Ryan Hutcheson - The old man in the rotation, coming in at 27 years old. He throws up to 99 and has a fastball, sinker, and curveball. Bullpen Bobby Smock - Smock is the long reliever in the bullpen, throws in the lower 90s with a 3 pitch mix. Tommy Charbonneau - Middle reliever throwing mid 90s and only throws a fastball and a curveball. Byron Nemeth - Nemeth is the lefty specialist and middle reliever. He is 32 years old and throws a fastball and slider. Bill Wheeler - Wheeler is the 71 prospect in the league and can touch 99mph. He throws a fastball and curveball. Phil Burtt - Starting to get into the backend of the bullpen, Burtt is a setup man. He is an outspoken personality and throws a fastball and slider. Dan Moody - Another power pitcher on the backend of the rotation, with a bit of an abrasive personality. He is a lefty and throws a fastball and curve. Kyle Young - The sidearm closer is one of the most beloved players in Puerto Rico who throws a fastball and slider. |

Starting Lineups
I have turned off the ratings, so there's not too much to write for each of these.
C - Steve "The Assassin" Johnson - He is generally viewed as a player who lacks some hustle, but he has a good arm and loves to gun people down at 2nd. 1B - Mark Sonnabend - The senior on the team, at 36 years old. He is highly intelligent but doesn't work super hard. 2B - Kyle Camp - The 26 year old is a super hard worker, always out there grinding and trying to get better. SS - Jason Kane - The 25 year old is very mild mannered on and off the field and is a solid defender. LF - Zach Brooks - The left handed pull hitter is one of the captains on the team. He is a natural leader, very loyal and has a solid work ethic. CF - Josh Mahoney - Mahoney is another captain and a great leader on the team. He and Brooks are very close friends and work well together. RF - Sean Phillips - The old man, at 36, is pretty unmotivated. At this point, he isn't interested in putting in the work to get better. Just here to collect the paycheck. DH - Dustin Fillingham - I was absolutely shocked to see that this guy is still playing at age 41. He is always late, and very unmotivated. Doesn't work hard, but he's still playing. |

Game 1 - Coqui's Late rally isn't enough, drops opener
Puerto Rico Coqui - 6
Havana Rumrunners - 8 Despite scoring 4 runs in the top of the 4th, the coquis couldn't complete the comeback. Kenny Murphy really struggled starting this game, it's generally not a good thing to give up a grand slam before recording an out. He only went 2.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and 6 runs. Jeremy Heurich had quite the day for the Rumrunners going 3 for 4 with the grand slam. |

Game 2 - Bats come alive and Hasek shuts it down
Puerto Rico Coquis - 8
Havana Rumrunners - 2 MVP of this game was definitely starter Corey Hasek who went 8.2 innings only giving up 2 runs on 8 hits. He threw only 3 strikeouts, but produces a lot of fly balls that the defense brought in. The lineup really came alive with 14 hits, that were spread out quite evenly across the lineup. |

Game 3 - Coquis win in homerfest in extras
Santo Domingo Primadores - 7
Puerto Rico Coqui - 9 This game had 7 home runs, 4 for the Primadores and 3 for the Coqui. The MVP for this game, which went to 12 innings, was definitely catcher Steve Johnson. He threw out Perry Jones at second, twice, which saved a run the first time. He also hit a walk off homerun in the bottom of the 12th with 2 outs. |
