Historical expansion

Has anybody played historical with expansion on? On Go 23 I started a save in 1970 and when I got to expansion neither the blue jays or mariners had a full roster. The mariners had 16 players only 3 of which were pitchers and it ruined the save as opponents were scoring between 12-24 runs a game against these teams.

Before I start a historical in 24 I was wondering what other people’s experience was with expansion if any.

I played historical 1969-1998 in the original Go and the expansions of 1977, 1993, and 1998 went well. I had my historical settings set to allow expansion drafts, with the ability to protect up to 15 players with 4 years or more of professional experience. The expansion teams had complete rosters but not enough players to fill out a 60-man spring training roster. If I set the game to allow fewer players to be protected and lowered the bar for years of professional experience to be eligible for the draft, the Blue Jays, Mariners, Marlins, Rockies, Diamondbacks and Devil Rays would have grown their rosters faster. They also might have been more competitive.

Thanks for the reply. I had my settings as you mentioned. I abandoned the save, only thing I can think of is the expansion draft didn't have enough rounds. It is my favorite era to play since you cant play random debut on Go so I may run a test sim on 24 to see what happens

Let me know how that goes. In my game the ‘93 Marlins went 30-132 (woof) and the ‘98 Dbacks went 34-128. If I did the game over I would strengthen the expansion draft.

I cant imagine I changed any rules around expansion in my previous save but in running a sim from 1970-1995 There was no issue. all four teams had rosters of either 40 or 41 players. The Blue Jays and Mariners had a pool of 277 players for their expansion draft and the Marlins and Rockies 457.

I can only guess the save I dumped was Go 23 and the above was run in Go 24.
