Game crashes when playing HR Challenge

Windows 11 with all updates, OOTP v24.3.52, user is a septuagenarian who loves this game. I haven't seen this problem reported yet. When I tried to play out the Home Run Challenge, the first time the player made contact, the game froze the instant before the ball touched the ground. It remained stuck no matter what I did. When I tried to shut the game down, it flickered several times before it closed. On reopening the game, I got a message that the file is corrupt and will be replaced with the most recent backup. This has happened with more than one association file. I have uploaded the saved game files under the name hr_challenge.zip.
