OOTPBB and betting

I am sure it is a fools errand but with sports betting becoming legal in more states has anyone used OOTPBB simulations to place bets?

Serious sports bettors already have their own proprietary simulation software programs they use to try and find the edge before they place their bets.
Haralabos Voulgaris and Tony Bloom are probably the most famous examples of this.

Both of them along with some collogues developed predictive software programs for the respective sports they bet and ended up making a lot of money doing so.

Just gamble wisely and only what you can afford to lose. Somewhere, someone has surely been using OOTP24 to bet … and lost a fortune betting on rain…

But seriously, the game as I recall does a fine job come playoff time predicting the World Series winner. I think MLB TV has featured it in the past for that purpose (predicting, not betting).

This is the best advice you could get. More bluntly put: if anyone is considering using OOTP to place bets, they should not be gambling.

I feel like things change in real time faster than OOTP can realistically account for. While simming OOTP is a lot of fun, I don't see how it can realistically predict a game without knowing the exact situations for individual players and teams which it cannot do.

Where is Judge Landis when he's needed?

As a person who wagers on professional sports regularly (baseball included) I can tell you this is a horrible idea.

The best way to gamble long term in sports is to minimize the amount of juice you pay. This means only betting on games with at least 50/50 odds and never paying more than 20 percent in juice. This means it’s actually profitable to take underdogs in baseball…much more so than favorites.
