Custom fonts for baseball cards

As far as I know, just dropping fonts into the data folder doesn't/shouldn't work as a way to use more fonts in the game but last year I was able to use custom fonts on the baseball cards by just putting the font files in the font0 and using the custom font's name in the card's xml file but after copying and pasting the card templates/fonts from my OOTP23 data folder into my OOTP24 data folder the new fonts no longer show up on the baseball cards.

Does anybody have any idea if there's a different method to using custom fonts for cards or any reason why I would have been able to use them last year but not this year?

We lost a bunch of fonts from OOTP23 to OOTP24. 18 different files that worked in 23 don't in 24 even after I pulled them over. I'm not aware of a workaround.

Well that sucks.

I also noticed that the tokens have been changed a bit too. At least one of them anyways. In 23 [%PERSON_CITY_DESCR] would generate in the format "City, State" and some of them still do in 24 but the majority of them are just generating as "The United States".

Also in 23 I loved how on the Team Home Screen there was a Baseball Cards tab where you could scroll through all the cards that have been generated for the team and also auto-generate cards for the players by clicking the name or auto-generating all cards for the entire team with one click. Unless I am somehow missing it, that screen has been completely removed from the game now making default_XXXX templates completely pointless in the sense of naming that way so they generate in the proper years because now you have to go in to every player's page then the baseball cards screen and generate them manually, selecting the right default_XXXX template in the drop-down menu.

You could literally generate the entire league's cards in like one minute in 23 and now that would probably take hours in 24.

Hopefully we get an update on the cards at some point. It seems like a lot of players never even really use them but they've always been something that's added a lot to the game for me.

Uhhhh, that's really weird lol. I do not have that in my game at all. I checked all my saves and even started a new game to see if it was something that changed in an update and still nothing...

Do you have some examples of this? I haven't seen it and was able to see it work properly on some random tests I tried.

Yeah sure. I usually always start with a save from 1977 when the Blue Jays came into the league and that's the only year I've done cards for so far but here's an example of how Bill Singer's card gets generated in 23 and 24 after copying the card template from 23 to 24.

So you can make baseball cards from individual player screens?

I'm just grasping at straws here but any chance your "enable baseball cards" option is not checked? See the screenshot. I know, doesn't make sense that you could make individual cards unless it was, but maybe that option only has an affect on a global scale? IOW if it's unchecked the team baseball card tab doesn't appear?

Even if it is checked, maybe uncheck it, exit the game, open the game and check it? IE toggling between off and on may "fix" it?

Or uninstall/reinstall? On Steam I think just "verify game files" does the same thing. Just be sure to back up anything you've modded.

After that I'm out of ideas.

Thank you, that was it!

It must only have an affect on a global scale because "Enable Baseball Cards" was unticked and enabling it added the Baseball Cards tab back to the team home screen.

I can't thank you enough because I was pretty bummed when I realized that there was no Baseball Cards tab in 24. I'm surprised I didn't come across it before because I was literally checking everywhere to see if the Team Baseball Cards screen was moved to someplace else.

I'm also surprised it wasn't enabled by default because I don't remember having to enable it in 23 but it's entirely possible I did and completely forgot about it in the year between. Either way, I'm ecstatic that I've got the screen back again.

Thanks again!

I just created a new historical 1977 league in OOTP24 and was able to reproduce this with Singer. In checking Singer's player pofile, no city of birth is defined for him. When I edited him to have a birth city, the card worked fine. I think this is a database issue and not a token issue.

Happy to hear that it fixed the issue.
