All Amazin' League
I decided to start a franchise that I don't think anyone has done before (at least not on this board). I created a league that has every player who played for the New York Mets during their 1st 40 years of play (1962-2001). The year that is used for each player is the player's first year on the Mets (ie Mike Piazza's 1998 season). It is a 20 team league (2 leagues with 2 divisions of 5 teams) with an intial player draft. Results of the draft will be up soon

Very interesting idea...never seen anything like this before. And, since it's the Mets, someon has to actually win each game which gives us Mets fans a ray of hope...

Ryan is a perfect example of one of the flaws of using the players from their 1st year with the Mets. There were a lot of good players who at that point in their careers are no where close to being ready (causing them to go late in the draft)
CF Preston Wilson, SP Jerry Koosman, CF Cleon Jones, OF Amos Otis, SS Bud Harrelson, 1B Mike Jorgenson, 3B Kevin Mitchell, SP Nolan Ryan, and C Todd Hundley are the biggest victims of this since none of them are above AA.

Update Time:
Nolan Ryan's ratings are Brilliant, Average, Average, Fair, Good, with a velocity of 9. Since he's in AA his avoid runs is only 1. After 1 season of this frnachise I think I'm going to do a version with a player's best season with the Mets (ie Hundley's 96 or 97 season instead of his rookie year). This would add a lot more talent in the league and would also be a better representation of Mets history. I was away this weekend so I didn't start simming the season yet, but an update will come very soon.

Update After the 1st 2 Weeks
It's only 2 weeks into the season, but Rico Brogna is clearly justifying the fact that he was the 3rd overall pick in the draft. After the 1st 13 games of the season, Brogna is hitting .511 with 6 homers, 18 rbi, and an ops of 1.592. Unfortunately for New York they find themselves at just 6-7 despite the performances of Brogna, Shawon Dunston (.415 avg), and John Candelaria (opening day no-hitter). They currently find themselves 4 games behind the division leading Amazin's for 1st place in Division 1. The Amazin' pitching staff has been unhittable, sporting a team era of just 1.78. With 13 of the 20 teams pitching to an era under 3.50 it's clear that the pitchers have had the upper hand so far. The Orange are leading Division 2 with an 8-5 thanks in part to a top of the order of Carlos Baerga, Timo Perez, and Gary Carter. The Blues are just a game back because an unhittable Dwight Gooden (2-0 0.42). With every team within 2 games of each other, this appears to be the closest division in the league. The Paysons are leading Division 3 with a lineup that has been led by Jeff Kent (4 homers) and the late inning duo of Dennis Cook and Jesse Orosco (12.2 shutout innings). Despite Tom Seaver's 1.07 era the Sheas have struggled so far, currently sitting in 3rd Place. The Wilpons are in 1st place in Division 4 with a 9-4 record. Steve Henderson is hitting .381 with 4 homers and the pitching staff has been dominant, led by Gary Gentry's 0.82 era. The Pinstripes are just 1 game back despite slow starts by Jeromy Burnitz and George Foster.
