Complex League Roster Sizes

What size do people have their rookie complex leagues' set for? Very curious to see. One thing I am trying to avoid is the AI hoarding players...and some organizations have two complex teams'...something to consider.

So just curious to see what others do.

For my single-player teams I almost always just use the defaults since I don't care enough to bother going through and changing them.

The online league I play in has 3 rookie-level leagues (two stateside and one international to give International Complex graduates a soft landing) that each have 40 spots.

I usually go with a rookie roster of around 31 players:
6-man rotation
8 bullpen pitchers
3 catchers
2 players for each of the seven remaining positions

On occasion I might add two additional bullpen pitchers. It’s tough when you start your franchise with 70 players on the rookie roster and you need to cut 40 of them without most of them playing an inning.

No roster size limit, max age 24, max service time 4 years.

I leave them open with a 3yr max. For the DSL i have a roster size of 30 and a 3yr max.

I have not seen the levels of hoarding that I had seen when the entire roster had no roster or service limit.

I'm a bit more aggressive with age/service time. I set my service time to 2 because remember in ootp that means they can play 3 seasons and set an age limit at 23. At 24 if you are still in rookie ball it's time to submit your Walmart application.

Might not be completely real world realistic but it fits in nicely with the ootp ages that are never extreme beyond high school being 17 or 18 and college guy being 21 or 22.

I normally ignore the service time limits. for example, High-A is supposed to be no more than 5 years of service, but a 23 year old former IFA player can easily get 6 years of service and not be eligible to play in A+, so I like to set my minors to age limits instead. for the ACL and FCL I like to use 21. any college players that I draft that are older than 21 should likely be strong enough to go to Single-A.

But for the DSL, I don't like how it's imbalanced with some orgs having 2 teams and some with 1. I often customize it and give every org 2 teams. I set it at max age 20.

AAA No age limit
AA 26
A+ 24
A 23
A- (if you use it) 22
Complex 21
DSL 20

As for roster size, I set FCL and ACL to no limit. I set A+, A, A-, DSL to 30. Since there are 2 DSL teams that's actually 60 players. AA and AAA I set it to 28.

I am surprised to see some people putting a limit of less than the recommended 35 at the rookie level. Doesn’t this cause some very wacky AI behavior in terms of releasing players?
