I'm at my whit's end right now.
Its no real secret how I feel about this game's AI's ability to manage rosters and transactions, so I decided to abandon playing a historical or modern day game and try my luck at creating my own fictional baseball world. So I went back to 1973 and created the American Professional Baseball Association, with the "lore" being a response to the labor issues that started in 1972. I created fictional players. Teams with logos. Fictional ballparks for each team with accurate long/lat's for their respective cities. I expanded the league four times bringing it up to 28 teams. My plan was to sim to the 30th anniversary of the league, expand one more time, and take over the team of my choice. I even started drafting the "History of the League" document complete with a profile of one of the greatest hitters that I've ever encountered in the game with the intent of starting a Franchise thread here on the board. I made it to 2000 this morning, and logged out to take a break and spend the day with my family. I got home 15 minutes ago, went to log in, and BAM! There it was: "OOTP cannot load this database because it has been created with an earlier version of OOTP. Please use the button "Import OOTP22" to import the database." followed by: "The loading of the database failed. It is either corrupt or a save-game from an old version." In 18 years of playing this game I've never once had this happen. Absolutely positively RIDICULOUS. That's probably around 16 hours of work just down the friggin tubes. I'm so done with this game and this franchise, but being around as long as I have been, I figured I'd jump in here and see if anyone had any suggestions because I'm at my whit's end.

Did you make any backups that you might be able to use?

Nope. I hadn't yet. I was planning to when I hit 30 years. This has always been an incredibly stable game for me, so I wasn't chomping at the bit to do it.

I don't know how it works but there is a setting for Autosave. Maybe something there.

Thanks... I'm going to play around a bit and see what happens. I appreciate the reply.

Dude, I could kiss you. It looks like I might have gotten everything to recover.

Glad it might work out for you. I feel your frustration. I had to nuke a save because the save feature is from the Stone Age and I accidentally quit normally instead using task manager.

To avoid such problems I zip my entire league file at the end of each league calendar year and put it on an external drive.

I know when you panic about something you can't think straight. With anything computer related it is always a good idea to back things up. You just never know when something goes bad. Good luck. Dan |

I back up before every game
Plus auto save when I advance a day. To OP now that your issue was solved are you still quitting the game?

What Bobfather said. I auto-save every day and it takes no time at all. I also use the games internal backup system every time I close the game, and that takes very little time.

i auto save each week. i back-up after every game session - usually i sim 6 to 10 days at a time, and make a back-up then. it's time consuming at times, but it's saved my game (brought up from 20 to 23 now) more than a handful of times. Back-ups should be auto built in along the lines of auto-save in my opinion.

This is the same exact thing that happened to me weeks ago. I lost my 1969 season because of it. That same exact error message also. And this never happened to me before, either.

That was me I believe Game. You replied to my post to see if you could help me out. It works because I had the problem a second time and it fixed it. The first time my season got corrupted I was so frustrated, I deleted it before I could try to save it. Thanks for that link. I never would have found it.
