Reconfiguring playoffs after expansion

Hey, i am 12 years into an NHL league and have expanded to 36 teams. to make it easier, i switched from 4 to 6 divisions, with 6 teams in each.

Problem is now, the playoff seeds are all messed up. Looks like all teams of one division made the playoffs, while some of the other top seeds failed to.

Is there a way to reconfigure the playoffs for six divisions that work? maybe the division winners and wildcards, rather than conference seedings?. Also, can i expand it to add more than 16 teams, maybe 18 teams?

I believe you can do a 16 or a 32, but I do not believe there's a middle ground there.

6 divisions though, you'd just need to go to the pre-2013 schedule.
