Stop me if this is already answered-Guardians?
In career play if we play the Indians and now they are the Guardians, does the past years show the Guardians or the Indians?
Also, again in career play, how about Montreal to Washington too? Does the game have a place to change these? |

If I understand correctly, OOTP23 does not contain any reference/logo/etc to the previous Cleveland team name as part of the requirement for their MLB license. The same is not true of other name/city/etc changes to my knowledge.

Thanks! But....
I was thinking of looking back to before Cleveland changed it's name or Washington became the Nationals, does OOTP history show Expos or Nationals in 1990 history? or Indians prior to 2022. I am caeer playing a sim California Angels and they changed their name twice, so how does that appear in the history or the team and players? When I look back will it be what is current or what it was in the past?
Thanks, sorry long question...... |

Not sure if this helps. When the Indians were still deciding on the offseason what their name was, I played a few games with them as the "Spiders". And I remember using the "edit" function as being a piece of cake for this. And even though ive been playing for 10 years I'm not really that technical about tweaking my games compared to others in here.

IIRC, it was revealed in a previous thread on the topic that this was a specific request made by the now-Guardians and/or MLB. |

It isn't a request. It is a requirement of the license.

If you start a historic season, the game will be correct. If you choose the right year the Senators will be in Washington, the Dodgers in Brooklyn or the Expos in Montreal.

The Cleveland team use its old names untill they became the Indians so from 1901 to 1914 the correct names (Blues, Bronchos and Naps) are used by default.

I think that it is stupid to try and change the history of the team
at least the team could have been named Cleveland baseball team from 1914-2020 |

It was what the team requested they do, so OOTP did what the team asked. So from 1914 on they are known as Guardians. It is what it is, no need to beat a dead horse.

And easy enough to change he name to whatever you want for any particular year you are playing. I understand the various sensitivities (and insensitivities, if there is such a word) folks have to this; but it’s no use pretending that it is the fault of anyone at OOTP. And don’t act as if the change has been forced on you, when you can readily change it back to whatever you want.

For those interested in long-term games where the Cleveland Indians name is historically accurate, and they don't want to have to manually update it every year, here are two threads that should help:

It's not just when you download the ootp update. The game can overwrite your edited files if you open the game and its missing something. For example i use different photos for every year. If i forget to put the readme file in with the photos it overwrites my teams csv file. I think it does that when missing some other files too. Bottom line is backup your edited and addon stuff. Also backup your league. |

I understand that they don't want the name Cleveland Indians to be used, but they won't use the Guardians either in those years I am just suggesting the Cleveland Baseball team name

The license that OOTP has with MLB likely stipulates that they use Guardians, and there's no ifs, ands, or buts, about it.

This is an MLB matter not a developer matter. Should be posting on MLB page

Can the above links show how to change the team abbreviations as well?
Such as NY1 coming up yearly as NYG? Thanks, I haven't read the links yet.
