Custom Draft Order

Has anyone ever tried or is it even possible to export the draft order to customize it? Let's say I want to add Competitive Balance picks or add first round picks for winning Rookie of the Year. Is it possible to make those changes? I see the export/import draft order options in the menu on the draft screen. Is it really as simple as exporting it, make the edits and import the file with the proper file format?

Yep, it's that simple. I don't even move it from the import/export folder - just open it, make the changes, save it, close it and reimport it.

Just make sure you've got enough players in the pool to cover any changes.

If you do this, comp picks might get a bit screwy.

Absolutely - and Draft Pick trading needs to be OFF. Or at least taken into consideration when you do the editing.

I have 5 teams from a fictional MLB structure that are small market and lowest revenue. The other 25 are at least 'average' market size with higher revenues.

I have given the 5 lowest a first round supplemental pick at the end of the R1 supplemental section. R2 and beyond has no supplemetal picks.

So I think this will not affect FA compensation picks as they happen before the Balance picks. Am I right in that?

Also I have draft trading ON. Should it be off to prevent bigger revenue teams buying/trading for these balance picks? My thoughts are that if that happens then the smaller market teams would be getting something from the trade which should help them in any case?

I guess all I was saying is that, if you leave them ON, you need to keep track of what picks have been traded for when you are manually editing the order so that what has been traded for is properly received.

Ahh, thank you, I had not thought of that. I assumed that it would be automatic but can see why I would need to get in again and edit. As it happens I play at a slow pace and look at all trades so it should not be too problematic to oversee. Thanks again for the heads up.

Thank you for all of the feedback. I think this is something I’d like to try. Does it matter when I edit the draft order? Can I do it day of the draft?

I would set the day prior as the absolute latest just to be sure.

Backup the game before you do it as well.

G'luck!

You can actually even make changes and import mid-draft for the remaining picks and it still works -- not recommended of course, I discovered it the hard way after making an error.
