Importing Real Players into a Quickstart
I am using a quick start and wondering if I can import real/historical players into the game.
I am just starting and erased all the fictional players. Am I able to add real players my universe. Does it make sense what I am asking to to do? Thanks. |

Yup. This you can do.
See the last two posts on this thread for a youtube link and a template to get you started. You can add them to teams directly, or to the Free Agent pool, or to the draft pool at any age. Take a look at the video, try a few, and post any questions here. https://forums.ootpdevelopments.com/...d.php?t=340424 |

Thanks a lot for the reply.
Just getting a chance to look at this was very help and very easy to add a historical player. I would like to have my fictional league filled with real players. A couple of questions:
That way all the players can be FA and I can use the function for the AI for fill the rosters. Thanks |

The easiest way is to use a text file and populate it with all the players you want to bring in. Attached is that text file (you may also have it from the linked to thread from before). The players can be brought in from any year they played. If you check the box "Include Players in the Minor League Database" this will include their minor league seasons. So, after you populated the txt file with all the players you want, go to the empty Free Agent list (I assume you deleted all the FA that the fictional set-up created) and Go to Actions, and then Import Historical Players.
When the dialogue comes up, it is the "historical database.odb" you want to select. Remember, ensure the Minors box is checked. Now, instead of going one by one and importing, select "Or select text file containing numerous entries". It's going to open a file structure for you to select your completed Notepad file. If you put it in the file location that is: C:\Users\YOURNAME\Documents\Out of the Park Developments\OOTP Baseball 23 It will be easy to find and select it. After selecting, import the players. They are all Free Agents. If you selected an Inaugural Draft for your fictional league and it has yet to happen, all these FA will be eligible for it to get them onto teams. In the future, if you want "Year 2"'s players to be in the amateur draft, you'd have selected a txt file with their particular names/years and also selected "Import players into draft pool" just before you imported that "Year 2.txt" file. I had you click that minor league database option because of your third question. You cannot import 2022 players per se - because they are current and not yet historical. But if you must have Bobby Witt Jr. (a 2022 debut player) for example, you want to get his minor league code (look him up in baseball-reference, navigate away from his MLB stats to his minor league stats, and grab that web page address' code for him (it is witt--005rob). That is the import code for any player's minor league season. But no, you can't have a 2022 import of Aaron Judge for example. It is possible someone has a way of auto-doing some of this, but I've never done so in a fictional league. Given what you are trying to do, you may get enjoyment of trying a Random Debut League. So, look into those sometime. Lastly, if you have created your league structure and are about to embark on the player piece of it - before adding the players - backup the league or make it a QuickStart with a version number. If something gets messed up, you can always then reload the Quickstart and try again. If after all this player movement you are similarly happy with it, create a second QuickStart or Backup lest you lose the work. Lastly, practical advice... for the first import of starting players, consider having players of various ages so they new rookies have places to fit into the league. Afterall, in 1871, it wasn't like the league was all rookies. Well, they were all "rookies". Literally.... But what I mean is that they all weren't 21 years old ;P Have fun selecting the mix of players in the years ahead to fill your world... |

The more I think about it, the more I think stating a Random Historical Debut game in 2021 and then redoing the league through the advanced options to match your preferences is the way to go. Since 2021 is the last historic year, everything after should be fictional but the draft classes and that 2021 league stating point should all use random historic players on its own. Be sure to regenerate the major and minor league schedules (upper right option) so those match the edits you have made. But I think that's the best way to go...
The edits you want to fictionalize it can be done through the Advanced set-up in the Historic game wizard. As well as necessary rule changes (for ex. 2021 still has no NL DH)
