I Wanna Cry

Game 4 ALCS, facing elimination. Sp Eddie Cicotte is at 84 pitches going into the 8th. I start the inning with CL Ed Farmer warming up (0.62 ERA in 61 IP 112 k 2 ER 1 HR), Cicotte gives up a single then a BB. Farmer is ready so I bring him in. i am winning 3-1 at this point. Farmer then gives up a double to tie the game then gives up a 2 run HR. Farmer was at 97%. Strikes out the side in the 9th. Wes Covington hit a solo shot in the bottom 8th 5-4. Season over. i made every move that any sensible MGR should do.

I’ve had my closer come into a 3-1 game. Gives up a walk. Then two wild pitches (with Posey behind the plate. I was fuming.) Then a triple. Then a walk off home run. I was laughing at how incredible the sequence was.

Yup. Sometimes you do exactly as you are supposed to do and the players don't perform.

You did your job, the players didn't do theirs. Don't be hard on yourself. Baseball can be a cruel game.

The game can be cruel. But nothing is crueler (or more brilliant) than this... Had I been playing this video game I wouldn't have believed it were possible... but truth is stranger than fiction... Enjoy the video. Waiting for someone to splice something up OOTP style...

Of course I sympathize, we've all been there, but if you were down 0-3 in a 7 game series, your team all but cooked your goose. All the good decisions in the world in Game 4 can't undo your players' goofups in game 1-3! Good luck next season!
