Running Out of Players
It has been awhile since I visited my 1966 Season sim using OOTP GO on my ipad, so forgive me if this is a common problem with an obvious solution.
My Phillies are running out of players due to a rash of injuries. I now have only two very marginal players on my reserve roster. I have activated Roger Craig (who just informed me he wants to retire), Harvey Kuenn (about to embark on a mangerial career leading to the “wallbangers”), and Steve Ridzik (who is old enough to have played with the Whiz Kids in 1950). When Cookie Rojas went down, I was out of spare middle infielders. Now Tony Taylor and Sandy Alomar (acquired via trade) have to play every day, with no backup. Without minor leagues, and with no available free agents, I don’t know where to turn. I could try a lopsided three for one trade, giving up a decent player for three guys to sit the bench. On the all players screen, there seem to be some minor leaguers, but they are not free agents, and are not listed by team or organization. I suppose I could page down and try to find any from the Phillies organization, but I suspect these are reserve roster guys from other teams. I even thought of eliminating or reducing the current injuries, to get those players back; but there is no path for that in the Editor. I would even accept ghost players or fictional players; but that does not seem to be an option within GO. With the very limited rosters in GO, others must have encountered this problem. Any ideas or work-around or advice for me? I suppose I could re-create this season in OOTP 23, with its full minor leagues and Commissioner options and plenty of players. But I like having the GO option, when I am on the road (think of me happily simming in an airport lounge). The games play out faster, and the same realism is there (except for the lack of sufficient players). I wish there were a way to “unlock” more players in GO - or simply to recreate players. Would welcome any work-around, suggestions, thoughts, commiseration. |

Click on action and there a fill team option. Also how many of the historical seasons do you own? |

1966 is it thus far. So, I thought if I click on “fill team with historical players” that would wipe out all my rosters and replace everybody with fictional players. Are you saying “fill” just means the reserve rosters will be filled out with the fictional players? Many thanks.

Just checked. Forgot that I downloaded 1977 in addition to 2021 and 1921 that were included with GO.

Also make sure disable creation of fiction draft class and free agents is turned off.

Okay, thank you. But I just want to be sure that existing players on team rosters will be untouched, when the reserve rosters are filled with the fictional players. I don’t want to lose any real players. Is that what happens when I choose “fill team….”?
Thanks again for clarifying. |

Hmmm. I chose “fill teams with fictional players” and got a confirmation (after an odd choice as to national origin); but I don’t see any fictional players. The rosters are the same. Did I miss something?

Tried the other option, but same result = no new players. I mean, it confirms the operation and says the players were created, but I don’t see any. I have the reserve rosters set at fifteen players, and they don’t have that many. They aren’t filled out. Still the same (real) players, with no fictional guys. And they aren’t free agents. I checked, and there still aren’t any. Reluctantly, I am going back to regular OOTP. It’s still nice to have a mobile alternative, but it’s incomplete. After having the full experience, it’s frustrating to be stuck with less.

Running out of players
Does the fill players action only work in the preseason?

I just wish I could create individual players from the minor leagues to plug into place. Heck, I could even borrow their ratings from OOTP to avoid cheesing the game. It would be hard to wait until I lack 25 players for the main roster (although I’m two guys away from that).

So, last night I got a message that the [IRL] Phillies had beaten the Braves, which is such a huge occasion for celebration in our house, that I clicked on the MLB site for video confirmation, leaving, but not closing, my active OOTP GO game. After a bit of celebration, I returned to the GO screen, only to find that my game had flat disappeared. This was ten minutes max. I was three innings in, two runs ahead, and my pitcher had not allowed a baserunner. What I got was the pre-game screen. Did I need to save the game before merely switching to another window? I don’t think so. I have been looking for the lost game on my ipad, but it’s not there. Sucks.

Wow. Just lost another game. Apparently, for some reason, when I switch to another window for even a moment, the GO game is lost. I see there is a "save and exit" button. Do I need to use that, even if I momentarily switch to a different app or screen? Basically for decades back to Windows 3.1 I have been able to switch back and forth, without loss of data. Why would this program not function that way?
