Why is the AI still so horrible at managing their 40-man roster?
It's really frustrating to see the constant waiver churn of prospects who were either added to the 40-man before they needed to be and waived too easily, or who were Rule 5 protected and then almost immediately waived. I'm currently playing default roster rules, but my last game I had made changes and it always seems to be the same story.

Currently this is my biggest complaint with the game as well... Definite head scratchers on why the AI waives certain players. I have also been seeing quality free agents not being signed and the AI playing lower quality players even though better free agents are sitting there with little to no demand of salary. I am hoping this area gets the next major improvement. |

It's almost every day for me. Guys drafted 2 years ago who are called up to pitch, perform well in the majors for a few days, and then get waived instead of optioned. |

in my standard start sim, i applied the roster size and pro service restrictions present in real life, and i subsequently found Jasson Dominguez (as well as other top prospects) available in free agency after I progressed forward 1 day.

Yeah that was the problem I found when I started a game with strict roster rules. |

I too have been puzzled by those talented prospects showing up as available (though not too puzzled to snap them up). And now I see the likely reason for it - my limits on rosters for minor league teams (which are considerably less than IRL). Still doesn’t explain why the AI, faced with limited roster slots, makes poor choices. Why not shop these players to a rebuilding team, and get veterans in return? I could jump up those roster sizes; but I don’t like the idea of too many young players riding the bench. They need to play to develop.

I agree it's frustrating trying to get your minors to work properly. Wonder why the prospects in your rookie leagues are batting .071 or have ERAs north of 9? Check the the other teams, and they're stacked with fully developed scrubs who absolutely do not belong in a rookie league.
I'm tinkering with age limits and hoping that it doesn't cause real prospects to get released outright, or any other issues. This is one thing I really wish worked better out of the box. |

I see a ton of guys on the waiver wire because they had already been optioned 5+ times in that given year and needed to pass through waivers before being optioned again.
For the sake of not just constantly complaining, I kind of just rolled with it. But since we're on the topic it definitely seems like the AI for roster management is weaker than normal this year. There's probably 15-20 on the waiver wire right now who are only there because they've been optioned 5, 6, 7 times already in the given season that isn't even at the all-star break yet. |

I turned it off straight away and will await a fix either via patch or v24. No argument from me to those that say "but it was added, it should work". Totally agree with that thought but... until it does I can't see why anyone would want it reeking havoc in their league? YMMV.

I turned off Rule 5 Drafts years ago when they picked up some *meh* player then waived Lou Gehrig, in his prime, to keep the 5 guy on the roster. No.

I'm having an issue in a fictional league I'm running where the amount of pitcher churn at the lower end of of the 40-man roster on teams is crazy. It's definitely something that needs to be looked at.
I was running a lower independent league in conjunction with the "major" league, and the teams were cycling through pitchers so fast that they were snapping up free agents from the independent teams over the winter and leaving some independent teams without enough pitchers available at the start of the next preseason. |
