Mission Disappointment This Year
My interest in Perfect Team is dropping like a stone this year.
I am a F2P player (no shade on people who spend money on this, but I get OOTP to play OOTP, PT is just an add on for me). As such, trying to actually climb the ladder is futile so I get my fun out of opening packs and trying to finish missions. This year that has taken a huge step backwards. I am finding it much harder to complete even the most basic missions, and then when you do get them, you are rewarded with silver cards that are pretty much unplayable by the time you have finished the mission. I didn't have these frustrations in previous years. It is making me not want to bother.

I agree that the progression has been pretty weak so far in the missions. The Negro Leagues are a very difficult, long term project. While the reward cards for each component are solid, the idea that a single Perfect Pack is the reward for completing all three missions is crazy. Really, The reward for completing three very challenging missions is a 70% chance of getting a Live 100 for a 20K quick sell?
I go on vacation in three weeks. Assuming that there is no GO at that point, I’ll see if I miss the game for the nine days. If not, then I’m going to pack it in for the season.

This season has been a big disappointment since the failed launch. I keep hoping for something to improve for this year.

It seems to me the entire "mission/reward" balance is ... out of balance.
I purposely decided to let the missions play out themselves and when a mission got close to complete, I would pick and choose which ones to complete based on what reward/card was the prize. Surprisingly, none of the rewards are better than what I already have. The cards that ARE worth it require me to collect "everything" I don't need to get them. Great for a P2P player but ridiculous for an F2P player. Since it's now becoming obvious that I can't earn enough PPs to get the high 5 and 6 figure prices in the Card Shop, all that's left for me to do is collect Twitchtv packs and hope I land a gem. It's hard for me to think I'll still be involved come Fall. |

It will only get worse, as most, if not all current cards will be useless in 3 months.

For all of its problems, last year’s progression stayed interesting throughout the year. With all of the issues. I haven’t felt that sense of fun so far this year.

Granted, I’m basing this off of 2 years worth of experience, but I liked how a lot of the missions last year tied together. This year, outside of the build-a-lineup, they feel very random, with little reward for completing. While I’m a fan of the Pop Lloyd and Cool Papa Bell reward cards, by the time you’re able to get these cards, you’re likely at a level where these cards just aren’t as dynamic.

I've come to the point where I'm not spending PP on packs or cards to improve my current team, but on any low-priced silver or gold historicals that show up in the shop, on the off-chance that the missions will tie them in. But even that's a lottery ticket, since so few of them are currently attached.
*However*, when a bunch of people were chiming for teams to look different, not offering mission rewards that are 1) Attainable or 2) Meta has helped accomplish that. We're pretty much throwing whatever diamond cards we can pack pull into the mix, and there's some variety out there. I mean, I keep feeling like my team sucks, and yet I keep lingering around .500 in diamond, because aside from the largest whales, I think everyone is in the same boat.

Speaking of mission disappointment; how about the fact that we didn’t get any new missions this week.

Honestly, how hard is it to throw together half a dozen pack missions and a few new name missions. That would basically have satisfied people. |

There are a lot of quick ideas that would make for fun missions:
Fish / Animal names Body Part names Players who appeared in TV shows Players who became broadcasters Jersey maker nightmares (long last names) Late draft round gems

Let’s have a pair of GOATs and Goats missions. The GOATs would be players with heroic moments like Kirk Gibson, Bucky Dent, Joe Carter, and others. The Goats would be people like Buckner, Mitch Williams, Fred Merkle, and similar.

This season keeps going downhill like the proverbial snowball headed for Hades. I keep looking for how PT might have progressed this year but I keep getting hung up on regression. It started with the launch. Thursday nights have been overall horrendous with poor server stability and even poorer content release.
You said no Missions this week Professor. You left out the "again."

For me, it goes beyond the potential rewards for missions. Missions are something to do. I’m sick of starring at the same Negro League missions or deciding if it’s worth dropping 10k to complete a build a lineup mission to get a silver/gold pack and a gold card of someone I won’t use.
I’ve used tournament winnings to improve my roster, but I could see a lot of people getting sick of their stale rosters because they’re priced out of any real upgrades, and a lack of missions prevents them from getting new cards. |

Agreed, missions are part of what makes PT fun. Having three weeks between having any new missions to liven up the game just adds to the feel that PT23 is just a exercise in grinding.

I don't begrudge the develpers of the game at all. Good for them, their hard work paid off and that's wonderful. But it's not the same game, and never will be. |
