Connie Mack Is Dead
1914 - Yes, Connie Mack is dead, and he has been replaced by GM and Manager, Oscar Rush.
My plan is to win the 1914 AL Pennant, not lose to the Miracle Braves, and if needed, raid the Federal League for talent. Long-term, the Athletics should be the Yankees of MLB. Years of compiling fantastic teams only to tear them down and sell them off. If I keep this going, then I will play out the franchise until it moves to Kansas City in 1955. That is 41 seasons to keep the Yankees or any other teams from becoming too big for their knickerbockers. If I make it to 1955, I will do a postlogue on the Athletics in KC and Oakland. Hey, I can't kill off Mack and Charley O. |

April 14, 1914 - It's Opening Day against the Yankees at the Polo Grounds. Projections say the Athletics will finish 96-58 in a tie with the Red Sox, but we plan to defy projections.
Spring Training saw the injury of future Hall of Fame 2B, Eddie Collins. Collins will be out for 2-3 months. As a replacement, I signed a 37-years-old 3B named Dave "Filipino" Altizer. I know nothing about him, other than I thought I could teach him to play 2B. Likewise, I raided the FL and signed Benny Kauff and signed Free Agent, Stan Coveleski. This is a deep team, but it is also deadball era, so despite my confidence, we might not win the pennant. |

Crazy to think that Mack almost had Christy Matthewson convinced to jump to the AL. Imagine having him on this staff as well, or having him on the staff with Plank, Waddell and later Bender in earlier years.
