Opinions on the new development settings?
This year, we have settings that I presume let us customize the development curve on players.
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on what they use and how they feel their league's talent is developing. Personally, I'm leaning towards Younger for development target age and Either Default or Younger for aging target age. |

Where are these settings?
I just threw myself into version '23 when it was released so it really is incumbent on me to watch a video about what is new. But I don't see these settings anywhere. |

In addition to the usual Player Development Settings where you can set again/dev on a scale around 1.0000, there are now "Development Target age" and "Aging Target Age" options |

What is a "Development Target", anyway?

I like much younger and much older, but there are times when players hang on a tad too long and college players slot right into the MLB roster. It doesn't happen often, but it's too much for my taste, so I now use younger and older with a development speed up of 1.100 and an aging speed of .900
I haven't settled, but those are my tweaks so far. Last edited by SirMichaelJordan; 05-16-2022 at 02:57 PM. |

Probably impacts the age where a player should be ready for league's highest level.
Same for aging - where a player will more likely begin their decline. Let's say at default, the peak of the curve is at 24 for developing and 34 for aging. My "Younger/Younger" might shift that to 22 and 32. Some might get ready at 20 and some might be ready at 24 still but those are now slow growers instead of normal growers. |

Welcome addition. Now please make it applicable to individual players so the game can have the realism of different aging curves.

I agree with a slight acceleration in young players and a slightly faster downward curve for aging players. I don’t like guys hanging around forever.
The one thing I would want to happen is top college players (who play until Junior or Senior year, and thus are 21 or 22 years of age) to be nearly ready. I think the game (MLB and OOTP) has been slow to realize that the SEC is probably close to AA or even AAA quality. Plus these guys, position players especially, are mature and filled out should not need a lot of seasoning. They are easier to draft, because there will be less variability to their skill set - established floor and ceiling. But with prep players, if anything, I would slow their development rate. Same, even more so, for international guys who are 16 or 17. Even the studs are years away from contributing, and the variability is just huge. For the most part, drafting those guys is throwing a dart. I know, you draft dozens, and hope a few develop. Some will get hurt, many will just never make it. But it’s a long, slow, painstaking process, and you had better have good personnel at the lowest developmental levels. |

I’ve gone “Younger” (one tick under default) for development speed, and kept it at default for aging. Seems to mirror the current real-life MLB performance parameters pretty well.
