Buffalo Sabres - the road to get the 1st cup

After messing about with the game for a few days, I've decided to give a go to the current Sabres team that's in a complete mess...

The game is started with Opening night rosters on 1st of July so we can make all the trades and FA signings in the offseason and I can make my own trade of Eichel, who will be leaving before the pre season, and he won't be alone...

I started as always as the GM & HC and my first move was to increase the wage budget to $91.35 mil so we have some hope of building a team.
Trading difficulty is set to Much, Much Harder level...

Next I fired all of my assistant coaches and hired my own trusted man....

The Depth Chart as of 1st of July is as follows, a great pool of prospects who can be used as assets in trades to make the Sabres competitive straight away...

GM TK43 went to the free agent pool and signed G Tuuka Rask to a 3 year deal worth $4.75mil/year and C Eric Staal to a 1 year deal for 1.71 mil.

A notable trade happened too and a flurry of teams terminated unwanted contracts...

Now GM TK43 will head to work and get a deal done for Jack Eichel....

As the preseason approached, GM TK43 decided to go back to trades to fill out the line up...

3 more high profile trades took place and we are now settled for the preseason....

Overall the roster looks decent on paper, just need to gel a little, we will be keeping an eye on the waivers for some checking line type players for our bottom 6 and ideally a better 2nd line right winger... Letting Ollofson go wasn't easy but the chance to get Karzipov to the top line was too good to pass on...

We got through pre season with a 5-2 record, the first "weird " thing to happen is our goalie having 15 assists in 7 games.... Pastrnak got injured moving his friends furniture and Skinner, despite returning unfit from his holidays led the team in points... somehow we managed to sim through the waivers where the Colorado Avalanche claimed Vitek Vanecek who was waived by the Capitals... a 3/3.5 star goalie

The first 10 games of the season are now in the books and the Buffalo Sabres are in great shape winning 8 of them... we had a few injuries but are slowly getting over them. Our goalie Craig Anderson was the defensive player of October and carried the team in most games... Our star stud 1st line is delivering most nights and have decent secondary scoring too...

The end of November is here, and after a shakey start to the month, where we had several players out with short term injuries, the Sabres are starting to gather momentum. Our 1st line of Karzipov-Barzal-Pastrnak is everything we hoped they turn out to be, finding chemistry after a few games together....

Pastrnak wins offensive player of the month and is scoring well over a goal per game pace...

December in the books, we are a little concerned with the nagging injuries to Shea Theodore, who still hasn't had a goal since his trade from the Golden Knights...

The team is still on a good run, mainly behind the efforts of the top line.
Pastrnak retains his player of the month award...

We reached the end of January and we slowly starting to see some contenders and some pretenders.... Biggest surprise so far is the Flames & the Maple Leafs struggling and the Sharks setting the pace in the West...

Karzipov took over from his line mate Pastrnak to be the player of the month for January and Anderson won his second goalie of the Month this year

Canucks and the Capitals made a trade where the Canucks got a goalie for a 2nd round pick, only to waive the goalie immediately...

February seen the olympic tournament take place which was won by the USA....

Pastrnak reclaimed his player of the month award, his 3rd in 5 months...

The trade deadline passed without anything noteworthy... No buyers or sellers at the deadline... (this should be given attention by the devs)

side note : very frustrating that players representing their countries get undressed by the AI and one has to reset the lineup with them when they return

End of march and we have finally got Tuuka Rask back from his long injury. He lost his first start 3-2 but bounced back with his first shootout in the Sabres uniform... Anderson played brilliantly all year and is a major factor in the Sabres leading the race for the President's trophy....

April is over and now is when the season really starts...
Play offs hockey is about to get under way, but after cruising through the regular season on the back of our newly assembled 1st line, our hopes are shattered after we had a nightmare of a month with injuries to our key contributors...

The Buffalo Sabres were dominating all year long which shows up in all team and individual stats....

But how will the team ravaged by injuries get on in the battle for lord Stanley's cup is yet to be seen....

The 1st year in charge of the Buffalo Sabres ends in the 1st round of the playoffs.... we weren't able to overcome the serious injuries and lost to the Maple Leafs 4-3. it was a great effort from the team being down 3-1 in the series and disappointing at the same time losing game 7 at home 6-3...

Plans for the off season are simple, improve the 2nd forward line and add depth in the the with a few checking players...

We need to trade away the terrible contract of Jeff Skinner as both Barzal and Pastrnak are in the last year of their deals. Might look at a cheaper 3rd pairing on Defence....

Your 2022 Stanley cup champion is the Edmonton Oilers! In the McDavid vs. Crosby battle it was the younger of the duo who had the last laugh. The Penguins lost the finals 4-3 after taking a 3-1 lead.

TK 43 won both GM and HC of the year at the awards ceremony.

We resigned some minor league players and made the decision to let multiple players leave for free agency as they were asking for unreasonable contracts...

We traded both Will Boucher LD and Colin Miller RD who's contracts were about to expire for 4th round picks as a part of an experiment to see if AI will resign them or let them go to free agency....

Jacob Slavin won the Norris Trophy for best D-man
Craig Anderson won the Vezina Trophy for best Goalie
David Pastrnak won the Rocket Richard and Art Ross trophies

The NHL all star teams were announced to finish the season and the Sabres had 4 players in the 1st team and 1 player in the 2nd team....

The Sabres had no picks in the draft as they mortgaged the next 4 years worth of picks to assemble a roster that shouldn't need changing barring any injuries....

To address the 2nd line, GM TK43 went back to the trading board. 3 massive trades took place to create our new 2nd line of Jonathan Huberdeau-Dylan Larkin-Conor Garland

There was a trade that made no sense from the AI too, see attached 1st round picked moved for next to nothing...
