FTP strategies

Every year I have to formulate a tweaked strategy to get the most of my resources early as an FTP player, and this year is no different. Without having as many pack rewards early on (as opposed to the Live 15 standard packs last year), I feel like I'm going to struggle to keep a steady stream coming. I'll get around to spamming tournaments, but it's limited to my initial roster options and the lack of GO play, which will stifle that source early on.

Are any other FTP players finding a particular strategy that's working for them early? I know it's hard to say how these cards will actually play until we get out of entry leagues and sorted among similarly strengthened teams.

Nope. The lack of packs, particularly Gold Pack rewards for Live 15, is going to make this a long, slow slog for FTP players. I don't see any way around this at present, other than winning lots of Rookie League games by scores of 27-0.

Tournaments, tournaments, and more tournaments.

Focus on putting together a solid tournament team and get a jump on that as quickly as you can. I spent time evaluating the cards before the tournaments became available and have pulled down 80 packs so far.

That was my primary source last year, but I used the initial Live packs as “capital” to build my bronze team. I may have to try iron to go cheaper utilizing the same strategy, but we’ll see what I’m able to collect this weekend.

I was able to sell a few of my starter cards for 13K which funded my initial Bronze team. It has been going well so far with 80 packs won since they opened up. Prioritize getting a good tournament team cranking out packs.

My starter packs were not fantastic, but I'll probably end up selling whatever diamond card comes with the freebie we're going to receive. I already know what cards I need for my bronze team, so I'll just have to budget accordingly.

This is my strategy as well. Starter packs were just ok, and it seems like making PP is going to be a slow process. Not being able to spam tourneys is going to make things challenging on my F2P team. I Might just let the F2P team run for a few weeks and then check back in on the team when I can buy some packs with the PP earned.

We really need OOTP GO for PT23. F2P players in particular are going to get frustrated quite quickly. While we don’t dump tons of money into the coffers, we are probably the most active players which is needed to keep the game dynamics going at a strong pace.

I funded my initial Bronze tourney roster by selling every Silver+ card except for the loyalty Brooks. Set up a tourney roster, win some packs (10-20), rip, sell off, and repeat. When my current buy orders go through, I'll have what should be a consistently competitive tourney team, and hopefully that plus a relatively-soon start to drops on Twitch streams will kick-start the engine.

I guess I’ve been trying to determine how aggressive I wanted to be in selling off my silver / gold Live cards because I’ll need them for mission progress, but it’s irrelevant if I can’t get my tournament team started because I have no surplus to sell.

But I agree that if we don’t get GO in fast order that this will be hard to maintain. I made it through the pre-GO months last year because of the early mission packs; since they aren’t available on that scale, I have to rely more heavily than before on tournaments without the portability to enter as many as I need to compete.

Getting your tournament rosters right is so important early on. If you can't do it, you're already way behind the curve..and with PT23 drops not here yet, it could be a very quick fatal blow if you can't sort it out.

I'm liquidating all live cards since people are chasing the live missions. Very profitable. Long term it has to be tournaments though.

I don’t like the poor privacy terms to use a remote desktop.I get that there were significant changes under the hood with PT23 but without GO the growth of the game has to be significantly limited. We’re a lot more mobile than we were last year at this time.

I ended up selling off my gold lives; between that and my entry pool pp, I've mostly got the team that I want, but I still have some large purchases to make. My current squad has netted me some packs, but not nearly enough to make up for the lack of mission packs available at launch.

IDK... the PT universe feels strange this year, but it's likely because the tournaments aren't "behaving" the way that we're accustomed. This doesn't make it worse -- just different. Between this and the challenging rollout, I've been giving it a lot of my time, but I'm looking forward to the weekly routine once the leagues start this week.

I've been using Iron. But having issues w/ my roster being depleted by selling dupe cards.

& just don't have the patience to fix it every day anymore. Oh well.
