How to correctly auto-calc during the import from 22 to 23
So I want to import my game over to 23 and need to do the auto-calc. Matt wrote:
"Modifiers may need substantial change after import. It is HIGHLY recommended to only upgrade in the off-season, and to run an auto-calc of modifiers at the earliest interval. This is especially critical for any leagues which have talent ranges or modifiers outside of the norms. Other than the base calculations for AVG, HR, etc…, the following settings also may need extra attention: SB attempts and SB pct (should be balanced around 1 for each, may want SB Attempts slightly lower for modern day) Error modifiers (all positions should be around 1, perhaps slightly below, except perhaps SS which may be more around 1.1, although historical games may have quite different modifiers)" I have never done this before, so my question is: What do I set the "base calculations for AVG, Hr, etc." to? And another question: My SB attempts are now at .453 in OOTP22, do I really set this to 1.0? Wouldnt that double steal attempts? |

I imported from 22 to 23, and now there seems to be a lot more walks and strikeouts. Small sample size though, I'll have to play through some more games to see if that's true over time.

Basically, due to the engine changes, it's highly possible that the previous modifiers won't give the same results. We can't say for sure, since so much will depend on your league and config and players and all.
If you are in the off-season or pre-season, then you can use the auto-calc button on the league stats page, or if you have the "Automatically adjust modifiers" button checked, then it will do it automatically. If you import during the season, then yes, I would advise to keep a careful eye on things, and manually adjust things as necessary. If you don't mind spoiling things, you can import, sim the rest of the season, see where stats are at, and then import again and update the modifiers. So, for example on the SB modifiers, it's quite possible that 0.453 was the right value to get your SB correct in 22. But that means very little compared to what the modifier should be. It's possible that setting it to 1.0 you will see less SB than before. Or you might see more. Especially with SB, one of the items we noted was that the correct balance for 22 and before the modifiers were fairly far from 1, so that's a big reason why we did the changes. That's why we tend to suggest importing in the off-season, so the league can adjust. I mean, worst case, things are off for a half season. It wouldn't be the first time baseball changed things at mid-season without telling anyone and causing a shift in league outputs *cough*HR spike*cough*. |

a) I manually enter the above mentioned settings for SB attempts and SB success, and for the defensive errors (all to about 1 for every position, except SS a bit higher). b) I don't enter any other manual modifier for AVG, HR or whatever, because this gets done automatically. Is that correct? (Again, never dealt with that thing before, so sorry I don't quite understand what that is in the first place...) |

(Actually I'm running challenge mode, so I don't think I can manually adjust anyway (it's all greyed out).) |

You should run auto-calc and see what it does to the stats output. I will be doing the same and simming to see what it looks like.
