The Last Great Season
Decided while I wait for the release of 23, I will replay the 1984. Using 1 year recalc. Letting AI control lineups and transactions, so not a strict replay by any means. Will be interesting to see how my Tigers do.
Opening day. Dave Winfield just hit 3 home runs against the Royals, driving in 8. |

Well opening day turns out to be heart breaker for the Tigers. Tigers lead 2-0 till the bottom of the 8th inning, but the Twins score twice knot things up. The Tigers go back up 3 in the top of the 9th on a 3 run bomb by Howard Johnson. Sparky leaves Morris in to start the 9th. Morris walks Randy Bush on 5 pitches. He then gets Dave Engle to fly out. One on and one out, Sparky brings in Willie Hernandez. Hernandez a single to Darrell Brown, moving Bush to second. He then surrenders a run scoring double to Gary Gaetti, 5-3. Up steps Tom Brunansky. One pitch, 3 run home run, game over 6-5. Ugh!!!

Wow, the Yankees are going to be hard to beat if they continue scoring like they have in the first two games of the season. 10 runs in the first game of the season, 11 in the second game. They needed all 11 in game 2, as their opponent the Royals scored 10. Don Baylor was the stud in game 2, hitting 2 home runs with 6 RBI.

Well the Tigers paid the Twins back in game 2 with some 9th inning heroics of their own. Down 4-3 going into the 9th, the Tigers hammered Ron Davis for 3 runs on their way to a 7-4 victory. Chet Lemon was the hero with a 2 run bomb off Davis. Willie Hernandez got the last 2 outs to earn his first save.

Oh man! The first weekend of the season does not start well for the Tigers. Milt Wilcox goes 8 strong innings, surrendering 2 earned runs on 6 hits. Milt walked 2 and whiffed 5 batters. Sparky once again brought in Willie Hernandez to pitch the ninth, but once again Willie failed miserably. Julio Cruz hit a Hernandez screwball into the seats for 2 run walk-off home run. Ugh!

Tigers are now 2-2 as Saturday April 7th was Senor Smoke day. Juan "Senor Smoke" Berenguer started for the Tigers going 7 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Juan walked 4 batters, but he only allowed 4 White Sox hits. Aurelio "Senor Smoke" Lopez pitched 2 scoreless innings to close out the game, earning his first save of the the season. I actually never knew Berenguer had the Senor Smoke nickname until about a month ago. Must have been confusing back in 84.
Kirk Gibson was the hitting star for the Tigers. Kirk went 2-4 with both of those hits being home runs. Gibson now has 3 home runs on the season. Dave Bergman entered the game when Darrell Evans was lifted for a pinch runner, hit a home run in his only at bat of the game. Last edited by David Watts; 03-26-2022 at 07:55 PM. |

You're way ahead of me. Except for testing I haven't touched 22. I left the Pirates on 21 when I learned some of the 22 improvements didn't take effect on an existing game.

Tigers take 2 out of 3 from the White Sox with a 3-2 Sunday victory. Lou Whitaker, Lance Parrish and Darrell Evans each drove in runs. Lance Parrish hit his first home run of the season in the 8th inning off Dave Schuler to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead. Jack Morris tossed 8 innings picking up the win. Jacks scattered 6 hits, walked 2 and whiffed 4 batters. Willie Hernandez once again made things tense in the 9th. Willie gave up back to back singles to Vance Law and Scott Fletcher, before getting Julio Cruz to flyout and Jerry Dybzinski to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. Willie now has 2 saves on the season and lowered his ERA to 27.00.

Tuesday April 10. Tigers begin their first home series of the season.
Dan Petry takes a no-hitter into the 8th, before Larry Parrish doubles to break it up. Detroit would end up beating the Texas Rangers 3-1 to improve their record to 4-2. Petry whiffed 9 Rangers over 8 innings without allowing a base on balls. Dan is off to a 2-0 start. Willie Hernandez threw a perfect 9th with 2 strikeouts to earn his 3rd save on the season. At the plate Kirk Gibson hit a 2 run home run, his 4th on the season. Darrell Evans added a solo shot, his 1st of the season. Danny Darwin took the loss for the Rangers and is now 0-2. The Rangers are 3-3. |

Tiger bats come alive in game 7 in route to a 14-0 drubbing of the Texas Rangers. The Tigers hit 4 home runs in the game, Herndon(1), Trammell(1), Parrish(2) and Gibson(5). Four Tiger hitters drove in 3 runs, Herndon, Trammell, Gibson and Parrish. Milt Wilcox went the distance for his first win of the season. Wilcox has been stellar so far on the season. He's tossed 17 innings, allowing only 2 runs, 1.06. He has 10 strikeouts and he's walked only 2 batters.
Tigers are now 5-2 |
