Why no minimum duration of minor league assignment?
In OOTP, a player with option year used can be sent back and forth without limitations between majors and minors. Players could send down exhausted relievers then call them back 2 days later.
According to MLB rules: Upon being optioned to the Minor Leagues, a position player must remain there for a minimum of 10 days before he is eligible to be recalled to the Major League roster. For pitchers, the minimum is 15 days. I'm using this as a house rule but I don't understand why it's not implemented in game. It doesn't sound very complicated. |

I believe for 2020 & 2021 at least that rule didn't exist in the MLB due to Covid and them wanting to enable teams to make roster changes as needed to handle positive cases.

To me the bigger rule that OOTP doesn't enforce (that is way more relevant than 10-day options) is that you're not actually allowed to carry 14+ pitchers on your 26-man roster - again, this is currently not enforced due to Covid.

It's left optional for obvious reasons. Last edited by Bluenoser; 03-09-2022 at 08:22 AM. |

As for it being "obvious", I can see letting people pick (as OOTP lets you pick a lot of things), but I would think the "obvious" setting would be to default to the real MLB rule and let people change if they want to. |

The option is on the Stats and AI Tab in league setup.
For a Modern Day real world setup it defaults to the correct setting. |

There's no "hard limit" on pitchers on the roster, the strategy settings are more suggestions than a truly hard limit. We might add the hard limit at some point, although since the AI is generally meant to follow the suggestion fairly closely, they don't tend to overload things as much as real GMs were doing.
As for the 10-day minors limit, it's always been high on my list of rules to bring in, and at the core, it's not complicated. But as with everything, there are exceptions (you can skip the limits to replace injured players), and what the knock-on effect to the AI is is completely unknown. |

I'm all for more complex rules being added.
Although as Matt says, the issue would be the AI use of them. |
