New pitcher acquired in benched status?

I'm playing a 1999 sim and I claim a pitcher off waivers.

When I add him to my 25-man roster, I noticed it says his status is "benched for 20 days".

I went into his history and there is no suspension, no injury, no nothing.

He's on my pitching staff in a long relief role but I can't use him games.

How do I make the player not benched?

Open the players action menu and select game strategy

Perfect, thanks. Not sure why a team would bench a guy before the DFA them.

Interesting.
It's not only curious that they would bench him before they DFA them, it's that it was set for such an extended period of time too.
