The Hitmen - A CHL Player Development Adventure
Its been a while since I've done player development type things in FHM, and this won't be a season by season.
Its currently 2024 in my game, having just had the 2023/24 draft (which I managed to get the 1st pick in, getting rid of several prospects to Winnipeg for). I'll show him at the end of this post, but, since taking over, I've managed to get 6 players drafted in the NHL (1 in 2023, 5 in the 24 draft) NHL Draft Picks 2023 Round 6, Pick 182 - Oliver Tulk - His rights were traded to Spokane for what would eventually turn into the 2024/5 first round pick from Tri-City. 2024 Round 1, Pick 18 - Dryden Kuramoto - Originally forecast to be #105, he moved up a long way, and goes in the 1st round. I didn't expect him to be this high. He has a big upside, despite not being physical. 2024 Round 2, Pick 52 - Carson Wetsch - Forecast as a late 2nd rounder, the big two way forward, a mainstay in the Canada junior sides since entering the WHL, has a lot of talent, and is a team leader, even at 18 years old. 2024 Round 3, Pick 78 - Carter Yakemchuk - Another one who moved up several picks, originally being predicted at 100 in the mock. The defenceman has already signed for Chicago, and is back in Alberta for the season. He set the tone from the blueline last season, and this accounted for his rise. 2024 Round 3, Pick 94 - Chase Valliant - Another two way forward, and a player who has developed massively from the 3rd round WHL pick that we used in 2021. Drafted off the back of a 40 point season. 2024 Round 5, Pick 145 Jaren Ashbee - A 5th round pick back in 2021 for us, was developed as a 6th/7th D in 2022/23, then stepped into the 2nd line last season. Missed a couple of months due to a torn hip flexor, but still did enough to convince the NHL scouts. --- 2023/24 WHL Draft As I mentioned at the start, we had the 1st Overall pick, courtesy of dealing away two import prospects and a couple of medium prospects. With that, we picked 14 year old Alberta native, Gus Bridgman. He'd put up 60 points in the Calgary U15 team in his draft season, and has moved to the WCHA for this season. Hopefully he'll develop pretty well. |
