Goalie Attributes
Let me start by saying this is not a complaint, but a question so i can better understand. I've played FHM since FHM4 and it seems that goalies are wildly inconsistent and I can not figure out what I should look for in a goalie. In one season, my 4 star starter will be horrible and the two star backup will be top 5 in vezina voting. The very next year though, either they're both terrible, or the 4 star is back.
I know that it's realistic for good goalies to have bad years and "less good" goalies can break out. I'm fine with that, but it seems pretty much random. I decided to create a goalie with a goalie rating of 950, and sim 20 years. He was a subpar goalie with a few good years and it seems he was a backup to someone else most years, playing 30-40 games. Which attributes matter for goalies? Does height have any influence? Mental toughness? Etc. Thanks |

Best goalie attributes
As has been noticed by quite a few, the goalies are kind of a crap shoot in the game. But presuming the game engine works, I'd consider the following:
1) Positioning/Reflexes - matter the most upon facing a shot 2) Glove/Blocker/Low Shots - come into play on stopping a shot 3) Rebound/Recovery - matter next upon follow up shots Mentally, I only look at mental toughness as it should keep a guy from folding if he lets in a couple quick goals. |
