Odd Captains of NHL teams

Don't know if this was mentioned before, couldn't find anything about it.

After starting a new standard game I think NHL teams are making some strange decisions regarding captaincy going into the 2021-22 season. Some examples:

Anaheim: new captain J.Manson, Getzlaf not even with an "A" anymore
Boston: new "C" Pastrnak, neither Bergeron or Marchand have an "A"
Chicago: new "C" DeBrincat, no "A" for Toews and Kane
L.A.: new "C" Doughty, which might be ok but no "A" for Kopitar?
Pens: new "C" Dumoulin, none of Crosby, Malkin, Letang have an "A" (lol, this has to be the worst one)
Caps: new "C" Carlson, no "A" for Ovechkin and Bäckström

There are several others, but those are the highlights.
In real life it very rarely happens that a captain gets stripped off his "C", especially when being the face(s) of the franchise for 15 years.
Only comparable real life case that comes to my mind would be J.Thornton with the Sharks. But that's a rare exception and still not as bad as the examples above.

Absolutely no way this could happen in reality.

I had noticed this too in my two most recent franchises that I'd restarted since the last update, it'd been noticed by Adequate Random Gaming on some full career sim screenshots JeffR had posted in the 'Unrealistic Events' thread too. Hoping it gets patched in the update due next week maybe?

We're going to be making some changes to the presets file in an upcoming update so teams can start with the actual captains.

No changes in v8.5.81
Teams made the exact same moves with about one week into the 2021-22 regular season.

Is there a way to reassign C and As for teams that you do not control, assuming you are in commissioner mode? I tried this, but the options to assign C and As are greyed out.

I couldn't find a way to edit this either. It wouldn't be that bad if it was editable in commish mode.

It's just weird to see franchise players like Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews, ... not being captains anymore (and not even wearing an "A"). Additionally very important players for their teams like Marchand, Kane, Bäckström, ... not having an "A".
All of this happening at the same time, and for no obvious reasons. Just very far away from reality.

This still happens.
Game start with real captains, but AI change them on many teams before season starts.

Stuff like this is why I play custom games with fictional players

Yeah, I've spotted several players who are unhappy because of their reduced captaincy role. Once it starts hurting team morale, I start to get concerned.
