Rookie Questions
I am brand new to the sport and don't know much about it. We got the Kraken out here so I figure I had better some things. This game is helping a bunch, but also generates some questions.
I have a bunch of guys in my Unsigned tab. Some have sign by dates, some do not. What is the significance for the ones that do not? If I sign a guy from this list, am I allowed to drop them into the affiliated farm teams or does he have to be added to the NHL roster? How long will guys remain contracted to me in the farm teams? In other words, is there a minor league free agency that I need to be aware of? Is there an injured reserve that I can put an injured player on and bring up a replacement? When an injured gut returns and I need to make room on the roster for him, does the replacement player need to make it through waivers before I can send him back to a farm team? Those will get me started. I appreciate in advance any information you guys can provide me. |

It varies on a case-by-case basis. Depending on how long the player has been in the league and/or how many games he's played. |

If a player is under 20 and Canadian, they more than likely have CHL rights and may have to be sent back to a Junior team. Once sent down, you cannot recall them. However the payoff for this is their contract slides (unless they play over 10 games). It also doesn't count as one of the 50 possible contracts you can have on your team. If a player is from overseas, it's also possible you may be able to "loan" them back to their team. You this also causes their contract to slide, so you won't lose a year of it. Third, if the player is say, playing on College (or was planning on it) and has no CHL rights, the rights to them can slide as well.

Thank you for the answers. I am apt to be back with more and/or clarifications.

One note on this one: there's a bug with a few of the sign-by dates in the current version that's preventing them from being set correctly (so you get to keep the rights to drafted players longer than you should, they're not expiring at the beginning of the 20-year-old season of players drafted from major junior leagues) - that'll be fixed in the next update.

How long do they need to remain on IR? Baseball has the set number of days. Football used to be the remainder of the season. I just don't know how hockey does it.
