Which Two Catchers Should I Have on Active Roster?

It's tough to come by good catchers...which two should I start? See picture below. I have B. Dickey, T. McCarver, M. Piazza, R. Campanella, J. Gibson, and E. Lombardi.

Dickey and McCarver are a lot of people's top two because of how much Catcher Ability can help pitchers' performance. But there is a case to be made for Piazza for offense alone.

I'd hate to see the catcher collection of somebody who finds them easy to come by! 🤣

Wow, somebody has been shopping.

Platoon Dickey vs R and Piazza.vs L.

If you had Crandall I would put him against lefties instead of Piazza.

If you have all those great catchers, then why does your team suck? lol

Clearly you can buy your players, so you should be 30 games under .500.

True enough, but I'm running Crandall with Piazza.

Can't afford Dickey. Haven't pulled McCarver or had the spare PP to look for him in the auction house. Of all the others, oddly Javy Lopez has performed the best, tho nobody seems to be using him.

Still, I have no issues with the two I am using.

I have had Gibson and McCarver for last 5 weeks and they are lucky if they hit .250 thinking i should get rid of one and maybe try Crandall

One thing he won't do is improve your hitting. I'm running Gibson and Piazza although, to be fair, my hitting elsewhere is significantly weaker than my pitching so I really couldn't take the Crandall drop. Those with better hitters and weaker pitching might get more mileage out of Crandall?

You should be running Crandall vL and McCarver vR. The catcher ability isn't accounted for in WAR or any other metric (aside from CERA sort of) and makes a noticeable difference to pitcher performance.

Defense does get counted, but all defensive ratings are not equal. Having a 2B with a bazooka arm doesn't make as much real difference as a 3B with one for example, but still factors in to overall rating. The general consensus is range is by far the most important stat defensively. So you're likely better off taking the SS or 2B with higher range even if their overall is worse, within reason.

I would go Dickey and Piazza. But get Crandall to replace Piazza.

My catcher is the best Slugger on my team, picked him up mid season and has rocked since, when my other starter had went into a slump. i got him for a steal of the Auction house too, i was stoked...
