Some direction regarding a back up would be appreciated
I just started an Oakland standard game save (now 14 games in). Named it "Oakland A's 2021"
I made a really stupid transactional error 6 games into it simply by being careless with my mouse. Couldn't figure out how to undo it, even in commish mode. It was going to be a costly error - both on the field and financially - so I restored the game from it's back up and renamed it "Oakland Athletics 2021" and carried on. Everything was - and is - fine with this saved game to this point. However, I back up daily and I've noticed that the back up to this new save is significantly smaller than the saved game. the saved game is 1.22 GB while the back up is only 883 MB. I'm concerned the back up is incomplete (missing data), should I ever need to restore it. Is there a good way to make a new back up and ensure it is complete? |

One easy option is to save a compressed (zipped) copy of your league. I save multiple versions. Use any compression program. SevenZip, WinZip, WinRar, IZARC.
Using Seven Zip as an example. Right click on the league folder. Click on 7_Zip/add to "myleague.lg.7z". This will make a copy of the league that is @ 1/2 the original size. I then rename the 7z file. Use something similar to myleague.lg.v1.7z. The next time you create a backup change the name to myleague.lg.v2.7z. Keep as many backups as you like. You can then restore any one by renaming your league folder (such as myleague bad) and then clicking on the 7z file and click on 7-zip/extract to "myleague.lg". Verify that the league is working as you want it. Save it in-game. Delete the myleague bad folder. The reason you don't overwrite the bad folder is that it may contain some files you don't want. You are basically going back in time just like Marty McFly. |

This is due to news stories and other stuff that piles up over time... you will not lose anything important... league or player history will be intact.. maybe injury log in player profile will be missing something?
the first back up is always a full one... after tht it is incremental unless you check 'copy all files'. if you make a "new" backup midstream and rename old one to archive it... make sure to check "copy all files" if unsure, copy all files. if you've done nothing since last time you clicked but play the game without changing directories or directory names etc etc.. just simulating days within that model, the incremental backup is fine. takes an odd situation to need a full copy. |
