3d crowd question

i load a old version save and don't load the 3d crowds, did i have to start a new game to see the 3d crowd ?

No, you shouldn't have to start a new game. You can turn on the new crowds under File -> Settings -> 3D and FACEGEN. There are a few settings there. If you still see the old crowds set Audience Detail = Detailed.
