Missing player - historical lineups/transactions
I'm starting my first ever season using historical lineups and transactions. Loving it so far, but came upon a problem that I'm hoping is not widespread and/or is easily resolvable.
Playing 1973 and twice now, I've seen the Mets have an empty slot in their #9 hole and at pitcher, they have Tom Seaver. The first time, I just thought it was a weird display issue and shrugged it off. The second time, I dug deeper, and it corresponds to a start that Harry Parker had during the season. Problem is, no Harry Parker in the database. If this were a one-off, I'd ignore it, but Parker pitched in 38 games and had 9 starts in 1973. And Seaver is getting too many starts + extra fatigued (he's pitching on back-to-back days as a result of this glitch). In prior historical seasons that I tried (WITHOUT historical lineups and transactions), there'd be a handful of players who never seemed to import even when attempted manually (Frank Taveras was one, for example) -- and this would be a player in the database, ID was found, but never comes in. So my question is -- should I try to import Harry Parker manually? Will this mess up the historical lineup/transaction engine? If not, is there a deeper problem here with OOTP that I should be concerned about? I'm hoping this is an isolated case, but not even sure how I would audit this efficiently. |

I just created a 1973 historical league. Simmed it. Harry Parker makes his 9 starts. No less, no more. Seaver, Koosman, etc., look fine. So, I'm not seeing the problem.

Hi, may I ask what historical database are you using? I'm glad that it does not appear to be a universal problem, but I know I'm not imagining it either :-)

I solved the mystery (I think). Seems like a bug. Harry Parker missed the 1972 season. I suspect that affected the import. I'm looking for another player to compare and confirm.

Just tried it. I created a 1972 historical league. No Harry Parker. I simmed through the 1972 season and then through the 1973 season. Parker made his 9 starts, as per real life. Seaver, Koosman, etc., made all their starts, as per real life.
Do you have the latest OOTP22 patch installed? What is the date of your historical_transactions.odb file (located in the stats folder)? |

I am running latest version and the odb is dated 5/21/21. That said, I have found some more clues to suggest that this is a bigger problem that I had thought.
On May 4 of the 1973 season, Deron Johnson is supposed to be in the starting lineup for the Athletics after a May 2nd trade from the Phillies. Problem is, he's not there and he's not in the full MLB player list. The only way that I can access him is to go to the Phillies stats page and click directly on his link. I went to the editor to set his team, thinking there may have been some bug, and when I went to select the league, there were *two* Major League Baseball options in the dropdown. One of them was my season, and the other was almost like a "shadow" season. Different schedule, different standings, different stats, but the same season date (May 4th). When I looked in the full player list in this "shadow" season, there were 2 Deron Johnsons -- 1 for the Phillies and 1 for the A's. I set the latter to be on the A's in my league and voila, he was there and set in the lineup. I'm really at a loss because I thought that I had done everything right in setup. But I acknowledge that it's possible that I did not, and I certainly couldn't cite every step that I had made. But I'm just as certain that there's something very wrong. I decided to take a chance and I deleted this shadow league, and we'll see how it handles transactions going forward. I suspect that this shadow league is the problem, but I don't know how it originated in the first place. In any case, thanks for your help. I am going to submit this to the bug forum, and we'll see how it goes. |
