AI GM signs injured pitcher to 1-year deal?

Just had the AI GM of the Red Sox sign an injured free agent pitcher, who's out for the year with a torn UCL to a 1-year deal for $25M even though he won't be ready to pitch until the following season. The signing came in early September, so they're only lighting about $4M on fire but still it makes no sense whatsoever.

I actually tried signing the guy to a 2-year deal earlier in the season and his response was "I want a 1-year deal".

This seems like something that should be fixed.

Maybe they want to sign him to a deal next year and it's worth paying him to rehab so they can scout him.

But that's a stretch for AI logic.
