Acquire a Most Valuable Player

Quick question: When my owner gives me the mandate "Acquire a Most Valuable Player award winner" is this limited to batters or do Cy young award winners count towards this goal? I am guessing no, but wanted to double-check before I swung a trade for Max Scherzer. Thanks.

When he says MVP that's what he means. And you can get one and he might say that's not a good enough MVP.

Verlander is the only pitcher you will be able to trade for that would satisfy this need. Other then that the rest of the MVP winners are hitters.

The owners have some crazy demands. My owner wants a MVP player even though I have the most recent MVP player already. Sounds just like George Costanza's employer.

I think the owner goal system could definitely use some refinement

Thank you for the responses everyone. It was as I suspected, that a Cy young winner would not count towards this goal.

LOL

From now on I’m reading owner goals with that voice in my head!

I have a pretty goofy one also. I have two aging catchers. One is 36 and the other is 38. One of my goals is to extend the catcher that's 38. What??? What if he doesn't want to play anymore? He's hitting .146 after 33 games. The other catcher is no better at .172. Needless to say, I need two new catchers, not to extend either one of them. I just as soon as call up two rookies and roll the dice. I'm only in manager mode. But this is silly.

The big question, is the owner willing to raise the budget to pay for that MVP?
In real life MLB is riddle with stupidity. The Padres fired Bruce Bochy after winning the division in back-to-back season. (1st and only time in team history. It was more than a decade before the team returned to the playoffs). And the A's fired Dick Williams after winning the world series.
It's too bad you can't fire the owner(s).

Kershaw would work as well

It doesn’t have to be a current MVP. I picked up a former mvp that was 36 on a 1 year deal for under 2 million. It made the owner happy and didn’t adversely affect the team.
