New widget width unacceptable. How to go back to version .42?

.49 ruined some of the widgets by making them much wider and you can't adjust the width. Unacceptable.

How do I go back to .42? Installing the .42 patch does not do the trick.

Guessing this "improvement" is the issue: "- Adjusted default widget widths in classic 2D for larger screen resolutions"

Problem is, it also messed with the width for 3D classic, which I use.
