Random Historical Players from all eras

I would like to be able to start a random historical game with real rookies from all eras. I don't want any veterans during any of the drafts. It's frustrating to start game after game only to see Barry Bonds starting the first season at forty something or Satchel Paige as a 58 year old. I don't think I've had Satchel start a season as a 41 year old rookie in any random historical game I've started. If some OOTP Baseball gamers would like some veterans in the initial rookie draft then maybe there could be that option.

Don't get me wrong! I have been with OOTP Baseball since the very beginning and I'm hooked on it. I'm 70 years old and still play games almost every day.

Thank you Markus Heinsohn and all the OOTP staff. Greatest Baseball sim ever!

I hear you on this, it would be a nice addition. On the other hand I was thinking that if I had some players debut like your Bonds and Paige, I could import them from the DB as Free Agents and then edit their age, and put them on the team the older versions are on.

it's not a perfect science but then I would delete the older version, I'll try and see if that works instead.

The problem is if you start with all youngsters, then you need to add VERY few new players for the next several years until those initial players start retiring.

That is a very good point! I wonder out loud if say Bonds debuts at say 35 and then retires at 37, is there a chance that he can re-emerge as a rookie later? My logic says yes and if so then fine, I will be happy!

Since you mentioned Bonds.

Create a historical league in 1984, Do not import full history. Once league is created, erase all history. You can institute a fantasy draft which will release all players for a draft or just go with the actual 84 rosters.

Go to the historical menu and select the option for the game to import random rookies. In the rules section select how many round you want your draft to be and how many players you want the game to import.

You now have Bonds as a rookie and after the 84 season is finished the game will import random rookies and every single one of them will enter at the age they made their MLB debuts.

Like I say, not perfect, but it's one way to have some control over the process. If you start in 1941, you will get guys like Joe D, Ted Williams and Stan Musial at a young age, but leave Ruth, Aaron, Bonds,Mays, Cobb, Matthewson etc. available to show up randomly at their debut ages.

That is excellent advice!
