Coaching ratings?

Despite the many hours I've put in the game, I still do not understand the importance of all the ratings, and which coaches use which ratings.

For example, what is the difference between Teach Hitting/Pitching and Handle Development? Do you want your Hitting/Pitching Coaches to have both, or just the Teaching ones?

What is Influence Mechanics? Is it at all related to Development?

What skills do I want my Managers to have?

Am I the only one who wonders what the coaching ratings represent? I tried looking at the manual, but there is not a lot of information there. In fact, "Influence Mechanics" doesn't appear in the manual at all!

You are not the only one. There are other threads asking for explanations and clarifications, as well, but no one that would have the knowledge to answer the questions has bothered to respond.

There are a lot of new things that aren't so obvious and no one will know until the devs are kind enough to grace us with that knowledge.

But "Handle Development" and "Handle Aging" are pretty obvious, that the first, if better, means young players will improve faster and the second, if better, means as players age they'll lose less.

It's possible they affect managers' ability to get along (good relationships) with young/old players as well, and just as possible that they don't, so that would be the only mystery.

"Influence Mechanics" is a little less clear until someone gives us an authoritative answer, which I sure hope comes soon. It may be the same as the other two but just applies in a players' prime, or it may be a modifier to all coaching by the coach of any age player at any skill. That one has more that we don't know about, mostly its scope.

Thanks for the reply. I agree the terms are obvious there, but what's not clear is if those traits are important for Coaches or Managers or both.

So, do I want my Pitching Coach to focus solely on Teach Pitching? Or do I also want him to have good Handle Development? And what skills are used by the Manager? Does his Teach Pitching skill matter at all?

So many questions about Staff skills that should be easily disseminated either in the Manual, or at least in a post by the developers.

The coaches ratings have always seemed like a afterthought to the game. It boggles my mind that, on a scale of 1-200, I can scour my fantasy league's coaches - major league level - and find 95% of all ratings are below 100. Are baseball coaches REALLY that bad? It would seem a lot of coaches would have good ratings, but NO! And do they really mean anything? IF so, why are so many coaches BAD? It is as if the devs want the system to say they have it, but never take the time to actually make it work.
