Sunday Drivers - my Our League dynasty

I belong to Our League this year. This is not really a theme team, but more some strict house rules forcing me to adopt a slower player card progression and some really tough choices ... here is my setup ...

  • Free to Play
  • Our League card rules (Historical cards only for weekly league play)
  • Start out first weekend with just iron and bronze cards as follows:
  • - 5 65-69 OVR cards
  • - 5 60-64 OVR cards
  • - 5 55-59 OVR cards
  • - 5 50-54 OVR cards
  • - 6 40-49 OVR cards
  • Must stick with same active roster all week long, no card substitutions at all during the week
  • On Sunday, after playoffs, I will allow myself to upgrade only 1 of the cards on my active roster. The card I replace will effectively be retired and cannot be used again
  • Only can have a maximum of 2 Special Edition (mission reward) cards on my team at one time
  • Two Build-A-Legend players spots are allowed to replace starter cards. Must stick with the 2 same Build-A-Legend players for entire OOTP22. Will upgrade these gradually from Bronze through Perfect, but these do not count as weekly upgrades.
  • The once-a-week upgrade continues until I have made 44 total upgrades. This means that, as a whole for the entire year, I will only have 72 players (not counting the different tiers of the 2 Build-A-Legend players) that have played and have accumulated stats for the Sunday Drivers. Update: Have decided, for the next 8 weeks as of May 16, to upgrade 2 players per week and finish with 80 total players. This will allow me to start working on second-time upgrades shortly after the All Star break,

This gives me an idea

I will make one roster change each weekend for each of my teams, and see where I can get to. I am horribly turned off by the poor quality of cards in the initial release - an obvious ploy to convince the big spenders to keep dropping cash. While that's a good business decision, it disenfranchises the large majority of the user base.

The below is my PT21 lineup. Right now I have 2 teams each in Rookie, Stone, and Iron.

Now I've also gotten in the habit of holding onto my earned packs until Sunday. After a long week of work, gives me something to look forward to, and then that naturally leads into decided which card in my binder or in AH is going to be the addition for the upcoming week.

Good time to check in with an update. I'm still toiling at Rookie level with my slow-burn strategy. This week we will be retiring "Pitiful" Patrick Kivlehan (-7.9 WAR over 5 seasons) in favor of College World Series legend Special Edition Nomar Garciaparra. Nomar will be fun to build around with his 1B/SS/3B eligibility.

The slow-burn approach is allowing me to save a lot of PP as I go. Currently sitting at 250k PP!

Iron LF George Hogriever continues to steal bases at 100+ per season and earn a lot of PP for an iron. It's going to be a difficult week when I have to retire him.

Pulled my first two Non-Live Diamonds this morning - 96 SP Bob Veale and 92 LF Alfonso Soriano. Veale is joining the team this week; unsure yet what I will do with Soriano.

Was reconsidering things this, but ultimately decided to keep this theme and stack a lot of PP for spending post-All Star break.

This week we'll update B-A-L Peavy and Sandberg to their silver versions. C/UT Wockenfuss and power reliever Kenley Jansen also will join the mix.

2029 season was the best by far with a 107 wins and a division title. Lost in the first round of the playoffs though in a close 5 game series. Up to Stone.

Tonight I am finally retiring the base-stealing master, iron George Hogriever. 14k+ PP earned. What a stud.

Adding SS Starlin Castro and SP/RP Walter Johnson to the team this week.

Almost to my goal of 1 million PP saved before the All-Star break ... 947k and counting!

The team has reached their goal of making it to 1 million PP saved by the real-life All-Star break! Saving for 2 1/2 more weeks then we will finally start spending.

Last night I pulled my first non-live Perfect of OOTP22, 2B Miller Huggins. I'm going to abandon my Ryne Sandberg build and just insert Huggins into this coming week's lineup (first perfect into the lineup). He should be a good leadoff man.

The Drivers had a good week as 2B Huggins had a great start to his career (7.4 WAR) and RF Bunk Congalton won the conference batting title with a .340 clip. Promotion to Iron level coming. This week's substitution will be at 1B - Earl Torgeson gets demoted and perfect Eddie Murray gets his crack at the job.

I tried to get away Kenley Jansen's walks (39 control) but it's become too much - upgrading to 99 Historical POTM Yates.
