Historical Year for Custom Game

Starting a custom game using each teams "best" (or near best year).
40 teams (included defunct teams) from 1902 to 2019. Fairly evenly distributed by decade.

Wondering if anyone has done this and what is a good Historic Year to use in settings (for general strategy, modifers, etc) as a base.

Trying to come up with "fairest" settings. I recall doing a tournament with mid 70s as base but I believe the early teams were penalized. Basically is there a year(s) that best represents all decades. I thought mid 70s was best considering power, but steals and CG were still part of league, with incorporation of multi inning closers.

Thanks.

For those type of leagues i prefer late 70's to mid 80's. Gives the SP more stamina overall. Homerun #'s are good but not astronomical. Still use CL and some MR. From my POV, deadball era teams are hurt by 2020 modifiers due to the lack of depth on their rosters.
For my Sox GOAT league I am using 1980 modifiers.

ok thanks. I was going to use 1980, see what happens. I think overall the "early" teams get punished because of lack of power, iffy running games, lack of bullpen and big one is poor defense. Strength of that era was obviously starters pitching lots of CG and on short rest. Believe this is eliminated in modern era.
Since I couldnt do historical minor leagues, maybe the early teams (which I will be using) can get help with some fictional players in reserve.

I think when I did tournament final 4 teams were all from 2000-2020.

Gonna try one later using every teams "worst" season.

I'm replaying the 1982 season, and the only massive problem that I see so far is the computer pretty much refusing to pinch hit for its starting pitcher, even though when leading off and trailing as late as the 8th inning. I'd like to fix this somehow, as it gives me a huge advantage, but short of editing every NL manager, I'm not sure. I had felt like there were too many errors in my games, but just now checked the percentages and see that they are pretty accurate for the era. Seems like too many balks and passed balls, so I dropped that some when I reached the month of May ( I manage every game for the Dodgers).
