3D very choppy on Mac

I had no issues with OOTP21 where the 3D game gameplay is very smooth. However OOTP22 is extremely choppy. I have a 27" iMac that I bought in 2019 so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I don’t have the latest software update installed. I’m updating my system and will see what happens

I'm experiencing the same issue.

I have a 13" MBP (non retina) with OSX 10.11.6

I have the same 3D settings as OOTP21 (just opened up 21 and verified with 22 open) but the game play is very choppy.

I tried the run in low DPI mode, but since my MBP is non retina its not an option.

Any thoughts?

Matt

Updating my Mac OS software fixed my issue. The game runs as smooth as silk now!

Still an issue on my end.

Im all updated on OSX 10.11.6 and still choppy.

I know OSX 10.11 is an older OS, is it not supported?

I updated to macOS Big Sur, Version 11.2.3

I'm guessing that macOS 10 is not supported because that's what I had before.

I had to update my 27" iMac to version 11 to get it to work as well. I think it has to do with OOTP 22 being designed for 64-bit machines and perhaps Mac OS 10.whatever does not handle certain applications of that type properly. Also, once you've updated to OS 11, see Markus's note about having to go to Get Info on the application and set it to "open in low resolution".

Any work around a without updating the OS?
I have a mid 2010 Mac book pro so apparently my machine won’t handle that OS

I've not seen any workaround on these forums. You could opt for something other than modern 3D, but then you'd miss out. In the Mac world, I see things moving fast toward 64-bit and older machines may have to be replaced.

When I opened the game with OS 11 installed I had an issue with the 3D only showing on the bottom half of the screen. Fortunately I had already seen Markus's note earlier so it was an easy fix

+1 on this. I'm running Build 31 via Steam on macOS 10.13.6. It's an older iMac, so upgrading to the latest macOS is out of the question, but it still meets the system requirements posted on Steam.

I'd like to add the following to the discussion, in case it hasn't been noted yet:
  • Enabling/disabling the Steam Overlay does not seem to affect the issue.
  • It's not just choppy gameplay on my system. I'd say animations are running at about 3-4 FPS, but I also notice that menu items do not respond properly. For example, the mouseover highlight of a menu item has a similar (or even longer) animation delay, and sometimes it takes several clicks on a menu item before the game registers the click. It seems like the whole game is not responding in those quarter-second intervals.
That's it. Happy to provide anything else that may be of assistance.

Same here, everything you have said I have experienced also, but my mac is mid-2010 and for me the 3D is much more choppy and kinda unplayable for me. OOTP 21 worked perfectly for me and I am disappointed to find it doesn't work as well on this new one. Hopefully, they can fix this.

I upgraded to Big Sur and I still have very choppy 3D. It is related to "follow ball" option, I think. It just feels like watching a bunch of cut scenes. V21 ran really, really well.

Is it better if you turn off the option to follow the ball?

Yes, the issue is the camera on follow ball and zoom mode, I think. I'm using the same settings I used with '21In this version the camera just bounces around so much it is jarring. The action lacks flow.

Found a working solution for Mac

Through trial and error, I've come across a good combo for watching. The dynamics (zoom and cameras) are there, but they aren't distracting. Camera movement is minimal, if static. The ball/play is tracked by the camera, for the most part.

Let me know what you think.

P.S. I got the wide_low camera from MizzouRah's great work.

am experiencing the same choppy play...I have an iMac. Experimenting with different settings but really not fixing much. Also the buttons are very slow when playing live.

Are you on on macOS 10? If so we highly recommend upgrading to at least 11 if at all possible as this significantly improves or eliminates this for most folks who have experienced it.

Thanks man. But that follow ball camera is still so herky jerky. Maybe it's me, but it seems so jumpy in this version
