Players who historically missed seasons?

Hi,

I've got a bit of a general question, I think this is the right forum but please redirect me if it isn't!

How does the game handle players who are available in seasons that they historically missed, assuming the historical transactions etc. are turned off? For instance, how should we expect DiMaggio/Greenberg/Williams to perform in an alternate 1943 where they're playing?

For a more specific question related to my gameplay: the scenario I've set up started in 1915 with half of the Federal League teams absorbed into the AL and NL, it's now 1916. I have a 25-year-old Dazzy Vance on my reserves, who didn't stick in the majors until 1922 but was an immediate star when he did. If I bring him up in 1916 and stick him in the rotation should I expect him to ramp up to that 1922 performance level over several years? Be a scrub for several years and then suddenly be great? His ratings are pretty bad right now, but other teams keep asking for him in trades so they must expect something...

I accept the answer might be "go ahead and try it, it totally depends", but if there is a conventional wisdom or known answer I'd love to have it.

Thanks!

I've never played the World War years but I have played several historical seasons and it's been my experience that someone who played the years 2000 and 2002 but missed 2001 (for example), if you start your game in the year 2001, that player would be a free agent.

For the WWII seasons I made a custom era_stats file that puts the league totals to the average of 1938-1941 + 1946-1949 so that those players will perform better.

With regarads to player development I suggest going to League Settings>Players and Facegen and make sure the disable player development box is checked so that players will develop according to their real stats rather than by the game engine. After that go to league settings>historical and you can select the recalc for the league and you can use 1yr, 3yr, or 5yr to base of stats for player ratings.

That player will be a free agent if you import entire history. If you don't import entire history he will show up in 2002 with his entire historical stats.

This depends upon your settings. If you have development disabled and recalc enabled, then Vance should develop each season along the lines of how he did in real life. And if you are using 3- or 5-year recalc, his performance should be smoothed out, whereas with 1-year recalc, he should be closer to his year-by-year performance.

If, however, you have development enabled, then even with recalc, Vance's ratings & performance should fluctuate some from reality. With a high randomness setting, his development might fluctuate significantly (but he'll be brought back to his current-season level with each year's recalc). And with a low randomness setting, he won't fluctuate as much.

These are all fun settings to experiment with if you're not familiar with them

Yes. It also puts in some uncertainty when playing historical which is a good thing as it reduces the ability to make perfect decisions.
