Running 2 versions simultaneously

I plan to buy 22 when it comes out, but only want to use it on a couple of my saves and keep the others on 21.

Can you install the new version completely separately from the old? Does it do so automatically or do you have to follow a certain protocol to have the two running side-by-side with no interference?

Thanks

G

No worries.

OOTP 22 will be a completely separate game, both via the standalone and steam.

Obviously, using the standalone, you should select a new folder, like OOTP22 instead of OOTP21, but that will be preconfigured anyways.

As for the savegames, you will be able to import OOTP 21 savegames into 22, using the import feature on the start screen. The OOTP 21 remains untouched tho, it just creates a copy of the savegame and transforms it into an OOTP 22 save.

In short, you can run both versions simultaneously without any issues.

Thank you sir, much appreciated.

FWIW I have every version of OOTP on my computer from OOTP 13 through OOTP 21. I've kept a save on each version that I fire up every once in a while just for nostalgia.

I have one save that is a little behind the others, so I still have that on v20 while the others run on v21 ...

It's no problem at all to run a v20 sim at the same time you run a v21 sim

I use a Mac and it's the odd file setup on that system that worries me. Windows seems to handle it fine, but I have this strange inkling that with Macs it tries to overwrite the previous version.

Anyone had anything like this happen?

absolutely not. yes it's a new ootp version, but it's still a separate application. That's like being concerned that installing word will overwrite excel.

OK great thanks JP. Being stupidly overcautious, I know, but like most of us I put a huge amount of work into my saves and just want to be absolutely sure. I always backup before this type of big event as well.

Braces and belt, anyone?
