Question Too many succesful pick-off attempts?

Seems as though I see these at least 8 times more often in the game than in real life. Anyone else see this? What pitcher and runner ratings are these outcomes based on.

I don't think the PBP shows all the unsuccessful pickoff attempts.

I have yet to see a successful pickoff attempt.. I play out all my games, and have done several seasons now in ootp5... I wonder.. I tend to not like to run alot though (unless the catcher is really really poor).. maybe its just that I don't try to steal much that I never have seen one?

I've seen it a couple times, not very often. It seems to be a good amount for me.

My team picks off an awful lot of opponants. I get picked off quite a bit too. In real baseball pick-offs don't happen very often. Sure comes in handy when you need that extra out though!

I play out most of my games and have not seen many, a handful at best....seems to be a believable number.

Is there a setting that could be effecting this, or is it just a fluke with random variables. I mean, sometimes you flip tails several times in a row right?

There is no setting that I know of, the only thing that may impact it is if you have a team of "base-stealers", then it may seem like a higher number but the % will still be roughly the same overall.

I had Pierre/Roberts/Jeter on my team all set to steal as much as possible, and I got picked off a lot. Probably has to do with it.

I play out all games. My guys get picked off a lot. I rarely (maybe 2 or 3 times) have picked off my opponent.

Yeah the problem seems to be that we miss the failed attempts so it appears when they do happen that they are overly common. I think this is just a "trick" of the PBP. At first I was annoyed by it but when I really examined it closer things seemed realistic.

I think JAttractive has it exactly right. The funny thing is that a couple of years ago I remember a BBS discussion on another site (maybe at Baseball Sim Central) about how it was annoying that DMB had too many unsuccessful pickoff attempts and talking about how great it would be to have an option that only showed when the runner was out (other than turning off pitch-by-pitch entirely). People will likely be complaining regardless of how it's done.
