BREAKING: MLB announces changes to minor league structure featuring 120-team regional alignment

I can't believe they actually did away with the leagues. Does this mean that in OOTP 22 MLB games there will no longer be multiple leagues per level?

At one point the article calls them "divisions," at another "leagues" and at another "groupings." It seems like they're not exactly sure what to call them yet.

I mean in MLB, the two "leagues" basically function as "conferences."

yeah. I would be happy with OOTP's AAA being 2 subleagues under one league. The rest of the levels wouldnt be able to use subleagues as there's 3 divisions/leagues/groupings. Maybe use one league for the level and 3 divisions? You'd still be able to schedule it properly

This was the Tweet from earlier, it breaks out the new "league" names and levels.

I notice no one is mentioning the baseball America article. The guys there are much better at getting the details that ESPN will.miss. The naming is not set in stone. A number of the leagues are prepared to hand their rights to the names over to MLB so the names still are open to changing. Just a lot of moving parts still place.

League names will also not necessarily carry over to the new system, although some leagues have offered to convey their marks and brands to MLB. For now, MLB has been referring to the leagues by geographic designations. It is Triple-A East and Triple-A West, not the Pacific Coast League and the International League.
This is a quote from the baseball America article.
They also have details on quite a few smaller interesting things that come up in the changing of minor leagues.

Yeah, I'll listen to what JJ Cooper has to say before anything ESPN writes.

The new Minors set up is for some reason very interesting to me.
I can’t wait to see it in next year’s OOTP

JJ's Twitter is free. And you get gems like this:

The entire High-A California League relegated to low-A. Ouch.

Man, there is some shocking reapportionment here.

This sucks in the short-term for a lot of those minor league franchises, but I think this is better for baseball over the long-term assuming MLB uses these changes to pay minor league players a living wage.

Living wage - yes.

Even a long-term *pension supplement* after 3 years, a few hundred dollars a month would be good.

In exchange for upping the pay across the board at all levels of the minor leagues, MLB is streamlining the developmental system. Less players actually ends up possibly being better for the players. Instead of being stuck in short season ball for 2 or 3 seasons and then released... now players will go to the Indy leagues and have a chance to show all 30 teams what they can do vs trying to impress that one team that owns their rights. MLB also weeded out some of the teams with substandard facilities. Lastly, teams tried to use some common sense this time on where their minor league teams are at. No more situations like the Nats having their AAA team all the way across the country in Fresno

For naming rights, I've got my digits crossed that the Automobile Association of America sponsors the top minor league so that it will be the:

AAA AAA

Im excited to see how OOTP 22 is going to add these changes into the game. I really love playing the indy leagues. I cant wait to seeing how these changes translate to OOTP 22.

Wonder if their will be a choice in custom leagues to add a partner indy league or just adding a unaffiliated indy league. How will the college game change? Will there be a way to create the Appalachian League in a custom game? And how will the Dreamer League work in OOTP?

For how this affects real life baseball, i agree that its rough now but long term this is a better plan for MLB. The real question is will MLB continue to support the partner indy leagues or was this just a PR stunt to save face with fans. Its horrible for these towns to lose their local team. I'm kinda shocked more new partner leagues weren't created to help with this mess (like Hagerstown, WVa, and some of the NY-Penn teams could create a regional league).

Can't wait to hear the announcement for OOTP 22!
