Historical Schools.text file for 1920-60 era
HISTORICAL SCHOOLS FILE FOR 1920-60 ERA I was not sure which sub forum to put this so a mod can feel free to move it. For my solo fictional league I modified the schools text file to only contain schools that sent players to the Major Leagues between 1920-1960 and figured I would share it in case anyone else wants to use it or build on it. I wanted a file with realistic colleges for the era I play in so I compiled the data that was available on baseball reference and created the attached file. It has 1861 schools total including about 375 college schools and just under 1500 high schools. I did add a few extra high schools to fill out states that did not supply much major league talent in that time period but all of the rest are schools that at least one major league player came from. I adjusted the frequency so schools that sent more players to the majors in real life had a higher chance of creating draftees. I used the data from 1920-1961 to get enough high schools as BBREF does not have the high school a vast majority of MLBers who debuted in that era listed. Colleges were more plentiful so I used the data from 1931-1955. My goal was just to create a file that gave me realistic schools for the era I typically play my solo games in. It is also interesting to track a player that comes out of say Van Meter HS in Iowa where Bob Feller came from our Commerce HS that gave us Mickey Mantle. Note there are no junior colleges included. I left all college schools as 4 year university so you will want to set your Junior College percentage to 0 in league creation or add some JuCos your self. It is restricted to strictly American schools as there were very few Canadian schools that supplied MLB talent, at least that BBRef had a list of but Canadian could schools could easily be added. Also it is a much smaller file then is included with the game so you will see multiple players over the years from the same school and colleges Holy Cross and UCLA will be well represented, as will High Schools like Galileo in San Francisco, which produced the DiMaggio's, Lazzeri and others. Those types of schools will appear much more often than the average school. The number and frequencies work well for me but there is nothing stopping you from adding more schools should you choose. TO USE - Simply place this file in your documents/OOTP Developments/OOTP21/Database folder and rename it to Schools.txt MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP THE ORIGINAL ONE FIRST You must create a new league for it to work properly. It can be added to an existing league but it will mess up the school data from any player that was created prior to adding it because my school ID's will be different (and fewer) than the original schools.txt file contains.
