Professional League baseball

So this thread is half showing off, half crowdsourcing team names.

I decided I wanted to create a Major League from scratch starting in 1965. Something I'm pretty good as a designer is matching eras. I started with 10 teams, based in cities with big population and urban growth at the time. The nicknames were a mix of city-specific names and generic sounding names that teams in the 60s were being called in real life.

They were the
Houston Saturns
Los Angeles Suns
New York Lancers
Toronto Darts
Golden Gatekeepers
Detroit Mechanics
Chicago Falcons
Philadelphia Keystones
Boston Bulldogs
Washington Admirals

Then when I felt comfortable, I expanded to 14 teams in 1969.

Minnesota Loons
Dallas Toros
Kansas City Thunder
Atlanta Peaches

Then in 1976 and 1978, we moved to 18 teams with two expansions of 2

Seattle Orcas
Cincinnati Bucks
Baltimore Charms
Denver Coyotes

Finally, to mark the 20th anniversary of the league, I rounded to 20 teams and realigned the PL

Miami Herons
San Diego Tridents

But here's where it gets fun. Obviously not all logos from 1965 have lasted, as trends and art evolve, I wanted to fit with the time. I have a theory on rebrands that loosely follow this trend. Clean and clear look > dark adaption of the look > hodgepodge brand in the early 00s > facelifted original look

Not all teams will follow this, but the plan is to rebrand when I see fit. I have 5 teams that have donned new looks than what I linked above. Most came when teams hit rock bottom in the league, and naturally looking good makes players play good.

Houston Saturns 1972
Atlanta Peaches 1975
Minnesota Loons 1977
San Francisco Gatekeepers 1982
Toronto Darts 1982
Los Angeles Suns 1985

I hope it goes without saying that I can post these brands if anyone wants them for their save. I was hesitant because these do look dated, even if that was by design. I could hold off until I reach 2021 in game then post them all, even. Also to save time from mucking around on graphics and not simming, I only made caps. Yeah I have those scripts and it wouldn't be hard, but the crop of the facegen players in game are chest high and you can't see details so I let the game generate them for me.

BUT to get there, I have some cities in mind for future expansion in the upcoming expansion-crazy 90s. I would love to hear some of your go-to's for these cities.

Montreal
Brooklyn
Pittsburgh
St. Louis
Milwaukee
Nashville
New Orleans
Tampa Bay
Charlotte
Anaheim
Vancouver

Think I have Phoenix figured out, but the rest are fair game. Looking forward to sharing these with everyone as I continue the save!

Brooklyn, IMO, should always have a pro team. If you wanna bring back a historic name while adding some history to your league, might I suggest the Brooklyn Atlantics. The Atlantics Base Ball Club was one of the many teams in the boro during the late 1800s. I assume they played along Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn (can't confirm). If so, it would tie into my next piece of trivia: when Walter O'Malley lobbied for a new stadium, the plot of land he wanted is where the current Barclays Center sits - the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues.

Vancouver would be a great natural rival for the Seattle Orcas and would open up a market for potential expansion into Portland.

I hope you post this soon, because I think I've just found my fictional league setup for OOTP21. Awesome, classic-looking designs!

Cool! Let me get to 1990 and I'll collect everything and make a master post, including a quick save for those who may want it.

Just finished the 1987 season, going to expand by 2, then expand by 2 for 1990, which would be fun for anyone who actually wants to play the game.

I like the traditional names, if you're into that. Montreal Royals, New Orleans Pelicans, Charlotte Hornets, Tampa Bay Tarpons.

Finally! It's time!

Here's a little background on this. The idea is a new baseball league in it's own universe starting in 1965. I'm a graphic designer by trade, and I wanted to manually evolve the league through graphics. I went in to this above, so I won't repeat myself.

I have had two previous leagues that have loosely influenced this, but a lot of these are from scratch. The logos are supposed to be outdated due to the era, but this thread will have rolling updates as I go. I have some big plans for a lot of these teams!

I've had leagues where I spend way too long doing branding work that doesn't affect the game. So currently, the main logos are the primary cap. There also is not uniforms, which I touched on above. Once I feel like a team is where I want them to be for current day standards, I may go back and make uniform images.

Also if you're interested, here is a Quickstart starting in 1990.

For my ease, the next several posts will be grouping teams by era they joined. I have plans for 32 teams and this will be more digestible for me and you.

Here's a public Google Drive with all of the branding I've done

Thank you! I’m excited for everyone to see the next couple rebrands. Kansas City, Dallas, and Houston all got facelifts. Going to work on Seattle next, probably today while I watch football. It’s going to feel good to not actively make logos with limited detail anymore!

Yeah eventually. I touched on it above that I didn't want to get bogged down with uniforms since they only preview from above the logo for me.

One thing! I was thinking about how to split the league in the future when we get to 32 teams. I love one league, but the wild cards not showing was growing increasingly annoying. I bit the bullet and made two leagues. Here's a new quicksave. (the Divisional Series is spelled "Seroes", so feel free to change that lmao).

For the few of you who downloaded the other quicksave, here's the break down

Federal League
Eastern Division
Montreal, Detroit, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington, New York

Western Division
Denver, San Diego, California, Dallas, KC, Minnesota

Continental League
Eastern Division
Boston, Baltimore, Toronto, Miami, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh

Western Division
SF, LA, Seattle, Houston, Chicago, New Orleans

Hey guys! So I wanted to go ahead and not string everyone along until I simmed to each year I planned to rebrand. So instead what I'm doing is releasing chunks of 90s rebrands for existing teams, as well as going back and creating official jerseys to use.

So what you'll find updated above are three of the first four expansion teams (your time is short, Minnesota). Here are the updated logos for Kansas City(1993), Dallas(1992), and Atlanta(1996).

I have some more in the tank, but don't want to be bogged down with uniform updates, just do them at my own pace. Look for Montreal, Denver, and Houston some time in the next couple days!

As well as the 25th and 26th expansion teams, which also turned out really cool.
