Walking through baseball history - suggestions for a newbie?

Hey, all.

So like many newbies to OOTP, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed and then some. Wondering if you have any suggestions about how I get started on what I have in mind.

What I'd like to do is walk myself through baseball history, by replaying historical seasons about ten years apart or so. Each year, I would manage each team in the league for several games to really see the sweep of what was happening, good and bad. I'm inclined simply to manage and play games, though am open to hearing any thoughts about why it might be better to also do GM and commissioner stuff.

I'll poke around videos, the manual, and click here and there, but would welcome more concrete suggestions on how I should get started, what I should do, etc.

My frame of reference is mostly Diamond Mind, but I was attracted to some of OOTP's features, and am wondering if this would be a better way to go.

Thanks,

BB

The neat thing about OOTP is that there are so many options available. Want to run a season with as-played rosters/lineups? Check. Run multiple seasons in a row? Check. Be GM involved in everything? Check. Manage all games? Check. I have run full replays which as commish I have watched the league evolve from 1871 all the way to the present. I have run inaugural drafts mixing the league up. There have been replays where I am watching 1 particular player in the universe. At times I have started with one idea and evolved to a completely different one.

Starting out, I would probably pick 1 team in one season. Get a feel for how the game reacts. Feel free to try out different options to see what you like to do best.

If you are doing replays of single seasons you should not have much of an issue using most of the default settings.

I suggest adjusting the strategy settings though.
